It's a sad state of affairs.


Not enough has been said about the twat who used a video camera to film it all, against orders & by mistake which i think is the worst bit of it all.


& i mean come on to foc!!!...you get home & realise it's on film.....get it disposed of instead of passing the footage around as a trophy.


I foresee a very big clampdown on video cameras on the battlefield although i think they also provide lots of useful analysis, maybe a move to more designated cameras instead of any old bugger having one.

I disagree, what do you think that Mr Al-Quaeda would of done to OUR soldier if he was unfortunate enough to be captured?

Alexander Blackman has probably had many friends killed or horrifically injured at the hands of Al-Quaeda so probably thought a little payback was due.

When fighting such an enemy I think human rights and respect has to take a back seat..

Don't forget who Al-Quaeda are and what they have done to the world..

I think what we need to realise is that this stuff has always gone on & always will go on.


Probably many highly decorated veterans of past wars have carried out some dodgy shit in the heat of the moment.


What i will say though is that the way they did it was a bit sneaky, they should have just left the guy to slowly snuff it without any of the words of wisdom which i feel is a bit ott.


Rules are rules but 10 years is too much.


Low lifes in the uk get less than that for some pretty serious crimes.

The camera was part of their combat gear, not a phone.

The news said it was a helmet mounted camera but against orders, maybe they could see something like this happening & decided to restrict the use of the cameras unless under pre planned activities where everyone is briefed on what to/not do on camera.

Not sure about orders, don't know why that would be, apart form the obvious!!!
But it is part of their kit, just like in the movies.

I didn't even think the murdered man was a member of Al Quaeda, I thought he was a taliban insurgent?

the only thing he did wrong was get caught. i doubt ANYONE on here can even begin to imagine how they would react after seeing 2 of their mates die horribly,so i for one will refuse to condem a veteren who's seen more gore in 6 months in that shit hole than i ever will.

It's a difficult one this, I'm caught on both sides.
I served 17 years in the Army, and saw 4 tours of duty in Iraq, Bosnia, and a long stint in Northern Ireland. I've seen some horrible shit in that time which affects you for the rest of your life, seen good friends get killed, and serve an unhealthy hatred for races of people. I can see and understand why the Marine did it!

On the flip side, that Marine has received some of the best training you could ask for, the rules of engagement are very simple, and the Geneva convention rules are drummed into you from day one.

He made his mind up, did what he did for his own reasons, and that moment will haunt him for the rest of his days. It's a face he will never forget!

a real dillema this. i served in the navy but the nearest i got to war type shit was a friday night in pompey. i really feel for the marine (all marines) that find themselves in that situation but two wrongs dont make a right. ill stay on the fence.
