HOW MUCH?????
#1
Hi all, I'm a relative newbie on here so go easy with me pleeeease....  I bought a Fazer 600 in February after doing a lot of research on this site and the tinterweb, found me a good un and its fast Black, 99 model with 8100 mls , hugger , crash bars , db screen and Datatool alarm for £1600 , since then I've put a fender extender on it together with a Givi rack and top plate, 2 new tyres and a radiator cover, bar risers and a pillion seat gripper thingy, my question is : How much is it worth now and did i pay too much in the beginning to get a reasonable price for it now. I'm only asking cos I think its too small for me and uncomfy on long rides for our lass. I love its turn of pace and handling and fuel economy also I've only put 500 mls on it since buying.

Thanks in advance  Buck

Defo still worth the £1600, that's the joys of fazers they've pretty much hit rock bottom although yes you will see lots for around the £1000 but they are a bit ratty.

Hey buck, how did you get on with fitting that one to your radiator, i got what i think is the same one and it would not fit coz the sides were bent in so much etc.....well one thing led to another....i ended up hitting it lots with a hammer...and it now fits! :rolleyes
Not on the bike any more as ive snapped off 1 of the bolts inside the rad, Fizzy id sell my battered one but to be honest when you can get one so cheap on ebay is there much point?

Hi buck, speaking as someone who was in literally near enough the exact same predicament as you, I have to say the news isn't great. I bought my boxeye 600 back in May 2012 after lots of research on the internet. All reviews pointed me in the direction of the Fazer with the budget I had and criteria I needed. There weren't many for sale near me at the time except a couple in Exeter both priced at around £16-1700 in standard condition with about 16k miles. The one I ended up buying was in excellent condition and I got a new rear tyre and carb rubbers too. I liked the look of it, it seemed comfy enough at the time sat on it in the showroom and on the test ride (I could only go as pillion as I was on a restricted license) I was truly sold as it was far more comfortable plus seemed so much more smooth and powerful than my dads SV from my perspective on the back.

The following weeks afterwards were great, especially when I finally derestricted the thing! The bike is excellent and I was really happy I had made the right decision, however some problems arose that I didn't read in any reviews, the main being at 6 foot 4 I was actually a bit too tall for the bike. This became especially apparent on longer journeys where my knees and hips would feel awful and I would have to get off or try and stretch whilst on the move. At this point, I was in a bit of a tricky situation as annoyingly a fork overhaul and some consumables had resulted in me spending about £500 on the bike on top of the £1700 i'd paid. I love it, its by far the best bike I've owned and with the new Metzeler tyres on and the fork refurb and some other odds and sods it was amazing. But I still had the issue of it being too small. I then started looking at supermotos and was obsessed with them for a while, all the while forgetting how effortlessly quality my Fazer was and how much better a rider I was becoming on it.

I actually in August this year tried to sell it and dropped the price to £1200 in the end from £1449 as I was getting a bit desperate. I still only received one phone call. I spent (wasted) £30 on auto trader, it was on for almost a month and I advertised it here too but nobody fancied it. Then on ebay like you say there were bikes equally as good going for silly money, below a grand sometimes. I decided to keep it and to be honest I'm really really glad I have. I've now started modifying the bike to try and fit me better, I have been extremely lucky with one of the major parts of this and I will be making a thread about it in the future when it's finished. A bike I did look at as a possible similar but more comfortable replacement was the Yamaha TDM 850, but they all seem to have high mileage and don't perform quite as well as the Fazer anyway.

This has been a bit more of an essay than I anticipated, but to sum it up I would say try and keep yours, at least for now and see if you can make it work for your height like I am. I would have lost loads of money on mine for absolutely no reason other than others are willing to sell theirs for far less.

If you are tall I'd recommend getting some rearset plates made up.  Someone off here made some up to my specification a few years back - moved the pegs back a couple of inches (and also up a little too for clearance).  Just some sheet steel, two nuts and bolts, and a threaded rod for the gearshift.  The centre stand had to go (or cut down the lever arm as I did).

I also put an extra layer of padding on the seat and laid a new covering of vinyl over the top to raise that.

Hi Guys, Noggythenog : The rad cover went virtually straight on mate with a bit of fiddling, mainly bending it a little to pull it round the side just to locate the fixing bolts but no hammers mate.

Yamazer-92 : Thanks for your -essay - mate, it made for a great mind settler in a way, for me at least , as I love Yamaha's and always have but the Fazer is feckin awesome and I really love it albeit being very uncomfy on my hips and thighs on a long ride out. I have recently put some bar risers on and not had chance to try them out as yet to see if they make any difference with me being sat up a bit more. I can put up with discomfort better than our lass and I've been looking at finding a way to drop the rear pegs just to make the ride a bit better for her as she loves going out on the bike as much as me.
Thanks pal.

Alan- thanks mate, some good info there and i have contemplated getting the seat altered too at a local upholsterer so we'll wait and see.

Thanks fellas and sorry for the late replies to your tips and comments.

Being a current TDM owner, and after having several fazers for the past 10 years, I can safely say that the tdm is not really a good comparison. Different beast altogether in my eyes.
After doing 100 miles on it yesterday up the motorway, it's very well suited to chomping 000's of miles a hell of a lot comfier than the fazer, hence why so many of them are 'high mileage'. I've done the 30k/year on a fazer, and being 6'1" it was only just comfy. The tdm can be sat on all day.
Performance-wise they're chalk and cheese. A screaming i/l4 compared to a low revving para twin? On a 1/4 mile there's very little in it, but roll on acceleration is easier on the tdm without a doubt.

The fazer is without a doubt one of the most adaptable, go anywhere, do anything bikes there is to offer, so much so that I'm sure we all get bored to the hind teeth of hearing it!:Smile

I'd have another fazer again in a heartbeat.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

You're right about the TDM Steve, obviously it isn't a Fazer but I had already written foc loads so I didn't want to go into detail on their differences. What I meant was they have some similar characteristics like they're both competent all rounders, both have fairly neutral riding positions, are reliable and cheap enough to run, cost similar to buy and insurance is cheap. TDM is more tax and more thirsty though. By don't perform as well, I meant the Fazer would likely have it in a quarter mile and arguably has better handling. But, as you say the TDM does of course have more roll on torque being a larger capacity engine and a twin, plus it's without a doubt more comfortable. I had a sit on one recently and the ergonomics for me were very good. Had I known about them sooner, it may have swayed my decision but as I didn't at the time and it wasn't in my line up of bikes I was interested in I definitely made the right choice getting the Fazer. As an all rounder it beats the TDM for me, more so if you're average height.

Buck, something I totally missed reading your original post was that yours has only done 8000 miles and you've only added 500. That's definitely going to have some worth to someone IF you do decide to sell it. Mine had 24,500 when I put it up for sale so if yours is in good condition you should stand a better chance than I did. Definitely listen to red98 though and wait until next spring.

Hi fellas, thanks for replying, Stevie your right about the Fazer  being a good bike and its adaptable to a point and I may have to do so If I want to keep it and persevere with it. I do love it though and dont want to change it unless something right comes along and your TDM nearly did it.

Yamazer-92 , Just had a look and its still only got 9128 miles on it and its a cracking bike apart from a very small crack on the fairing and back undertray which the former owner said had been done when his mate knocked the bike over on his drive. It had a couple of deep scratches on the tank from the same incident but it bugged me everytime I sat on the bike so I had it sprayed fin the same colour for £120 and now looks awesome, pity bout the other damage or else she would be like new. Don't want to put too many miles on it cos its the best bike I've ever had, would'nt think I was 55 years old would you, soft old twat I am haha.
