Could someone post me a link to the thread about headlight mod for early fzs 600 to modify from single headlight to both, Thanks. Smile
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

The Philips beat the Osrams again for best bulb. Just a heads up fella.

Really? I've got Osrams in at the moment and they're fantastic. Guess I'll be giving the Philips a go when they inevitably burn out!

Got the Philips fitted in my Tiger and they are awesome. Went for the Osrams due to them being half the cost for the Fazer. Fazer lights (with dual lamp mod) simply can't touch the Tiger ones which I've partly put down to the reflectors.

I don't think the Fazer headlights even WITH the dual lamp mod can touch anything!

I pulled over to check my phone to see where I was going the other night, and I'm pretty sure the backlight from the phone gave me an extra 20m visibility down the road over the headlights!  :rollin

Have done the headlight mod, with Osram nightbreakers on both sides.  Whilst their is definitely a huge improvement, i'd say still not good enough for country roads in the current crappy weather.

I'm not sure how much better HID would be, but it would seem to be a good alternative for not much more £'s.  I'm now considering changing my left low beam to HID

I've noticed, probably down to the dark nights drawing in, a real spate of bikes with HID bulbs in standard reflectors. Usually Gixxers and R1s down in that there London. Their headlights are nothing but a dazzling orb of brilliant white light. Probably great for them but I can't see sod all after they've gone the other way. So I'd definitely throw my hat in the ring and say that unless you upgrade to projector lenses too, steer clear of HID's.

It's great being able to see,  and there is the argument of being visible to the cagers, but it defeats the object if you're dazzling folks and causing them to veer blindly into your path! I'm being dramatic,  but being dazzled on a dark country lane when you're doing 60 isn't funny :'(

Not to mention the attention that  :bobby Confusedtop are going to give you.

I'm sick of tossers in their cars, blinding me with their stupid white - almost blue lights, most new cars now come with the white lights - fair enough but they are set right. I have made a note and I see I direct link between - the blue'er and brighter the light -------the lower the IQ of the driver, I think they are being made to fit them to warn all other drivers that a twat is approaching. Go,s without saying that none of this counts for bikes we can do what we like

Of course we can!

I fully intend to upgrade to HID at some point. But then I've just upgraded to twin projector headlamps up front. Even with the Osram nightbreaker Halogens in them, they make a HELL of a difference. I actually hit 70mph on a country road last week without needing to rely on using the force.

I'll be going for the warmest option a 4300K kit though. I want as little blue as possible!

what do you mean by 'projector'?  is this different from the normal making the dip beam work on the right side light?

The projector lamp puts a lens in FRONT of the bulb so ALL of the light is controlled and focussed in the right place.

The standard and simple (cheap) set up is to have one that is dip beam and one that is main beam. But the ones that I have fitted have a shutter that cuts off half the beam to create dipped beam, and then a solenoid flips the shutter out of the way for full beam. So I now have twin dip AND twin main beam. And tbh, they're plenty good enough. I'm in no hurry to go the final step to HID as that would be more of a luxury with extra expense and a complete re-rewire of my headlights.

If I may ask, did you make this headlight setup in the picture or did you buy it already made?

That looks like a great job!

I have looked into doing something similar. The most suitable projector units I found were sealed 90mm bi-halogen (dipped + high like yours) units made by Hella. They looked great but were expensive and I think wouldn't have fitted into the fazer headlight unit that easily. So have resigned myself to having the standard unit + LED spotlights, although I'm always keeping an eye out for a fazer 400 jdm spec unit.

Where did you source your projector units?

I bought the projector lights and modified my existing headlight unit to accommodate them. There was no real effort for the H4 side. But the H1 side needed a lot of Chopping about! I'll explain it more in my project thread soon.

i took a look at the bike tonight and noticed someone has done the mod where the lights are linked, so that when high beam is on both dip and high beam come on. I thought the bulb had blown, so changed it and it seemed to work.. However on closer inspection the original bulb was fine. The reflector isnt fixed in position because the 8mm nut with cross head' for adjusting headlight beam' isn't being held by the plastic surround ie.. it goes straight through the hole. I tried to loosen it to put a washer behind it, so that the reflector couldn't move, but it just seemed to keep turning. Because the reflector isn't secure if i hold it in correct position the light stays on, but when i let it go the bulb goes out? I presume the reflector has to be earthed against something?
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

I think not. The earth for the bulbs is through the black wires, eventually to some point on the frame. sounds like you might have a loose connection at the bulb that makes contact when you move it. Not on the Fazer but I once had a broken wire that was still held in position by the insulation, so watch for that as well. That made intermittent contact.
