New model FZ1
#21
Interestingly Bike mag hinted at such when they said " why do you need an FZ-1 when you have this " ?

my retort could be ...well 140 odd bhp for a start ...let alone fairing etc etc. No way can it replace the FZ-1, but certainly its time the fazer was updated....FZ-1 came out in 2006, thats 7 yrs prod run...??

Still think the MT " fever " is verging on hysterical overhyping ...I mean how can it compete with a speed triple???...yet Bike mag reckons its better .Sorry , not  convinced.

I still laff when I think of Yam bringing out a torque meister after yrs of top endy screamers...but I still think it looks pants and a 14 litre tank is bollox for anyone with any intentions of doing anything other than piss about on it. Replace FZ-1 ...feck no.And dont even think it can possibly rival a FZS.... :z

Yep, no way I'd trade a gen 1 thou for it. Still not convinced about the looks either, but as a second bike? Yeah, I think I'd have to give it serious consideration. But then, I'd need a third bike as a winter hack and, well, maybe a KTM for Thursdays and........... :lol

Im sorry to all those ppl that love there gen 2 thos and all the people that love this new yam but !
the gen 1 to me was the perffect half way house sports bike perfomance tourer comfort and a decent size tank !
since then its all been moving away from the original bike

I wouldnt say its evolved ,the desgin mayb be simlar but the aim has changed tanks are getting smaller perfomance higher which is good but if you in a hurry filling up every 100 miles is just a joke
sorry but If I had my way the gen 3 might end up as a step backwards for some common sence to others !

one question which is totally off topic  why the flipping heck stick the air box in valuble fuel tank space when the loads of room in the fairing behind the lights?

Cracked frame welds. I believe there was a handful of 2006 models either side of the Atlantic with cracks but don't recall seeing any in recent years.

My 07 developed a microscopic line in the weld but I had just ridden it into the side of a mountain :eek I survived but the bike didn't !

Wonder which way yammie will take the FZ1. Do they fit the crossplane engine which by definition is making it even more of a sports bike or do they try to go back to a tourer based option?

Bizarre how many threads turn into "fazer thous are much better than fz1s"..I'm happier with my fz1 than I was with my thou. I'm perfectly ok with it that some of you fellers prefer your gen 1s.isnt that all that matters?
So back on track...I'm guessing there's a cross plane crank new bike coming..am at BSD in Peterborough getting my bike mapped today, I'll ask brew if he's heard wot...

Your not wrong there, perhaps they're justifying their inadequacies. :lol

I don't think I've every said the gen 01 is better than a gen 2  :pokefun even though they are  :lol
my only real comment is the gen 2's are a step away from the gen one and going in a different direction more towards a sports bike
just look at the seats on a gen 2 !
the Gen 1's to me are the right balance of sports to tourer others may argue .
the gen 1 is a big bike not just in CC but the whole bike is big roomy and yet still has the performance and handling of a sports bike
OK it needs a little tinkering , but no where near as much as the gen 2's
at the end of the day you buy a bike that suits you ! and for me its the older gen 1 but others like the gen 2' because its more sports focused smaller tank uncomfortable seat the need for very expensive tinkering and the fact that pillions don't stay long because there knees are so cramped :pokefun other than that its a lovely bike  :lol

Big Grin  And so it goes on...endlessly and relentlessly.... Us old fellers never take the bait so it don't matter, even on the fairly serious dissing....Perhaps I should...".let's have a show of hands who's frames cracked?

No no.....keep them up, I wanna do a count...."

Ditto mate. Got me fz1 mapped today, 149 bhp never felt as good as it does in that snarling lightweight little bastard of a motor sickle...I love it..

Well i'm with the group who love their Gen 1's and can't see a bike on the market that I would want to replace it with as it suits my needs perfectly and has as much performance as anyone could realistically need on the road (and then some). I also personally think they are a beautiful machine especially with a few subtle tweeks here and there. However, if money ever permitted, I would seriously consider a Gen 2 'aswell' as the Gen 1 rather than 'instead' of the Gen 1. I would certainly consider the Gen 2 over the MT09 mainly due to the tank range issue and the fact I prefer the look of the Gen 2. I think Yamaha have made a serious faux pas with the tank range. It might well be a short blast hooligan tool but seriously. Come on Yamaha  :\
Yamaha Fazer 'the only bike you'll ever need' maybe ???

With regard to the idea of a Crossplane Fazer, in BIKE this month, the MT-09 designer Shun Miyazawa says there will be high capacity MT style machines and they will choose the number of cylinders depending on what they're trying to achieve.

Now given the MT-09 is Yamaha refocussing on machines which are a pleasure to ride, rather than out and out fast, I reckon we could easily see an MT-10 or MT-11 with a Crossplane 4 engine.

And I'd buy one like a shot. I will have a test ride on the MT-09, but it looks a bit lacking in the grunt dept and as usual, it has not got a big enough range for me.

I would love to keep the ZZR and buy a Fazer but unfortunately I canae afford it :'(
Regarding Mr Miyazawa's comments, fingers crossed I would love to see a crossplane 4 version of the Fazer, that is the ultimate bike as far as i'm concerned and is long overdue.
You go up ther lahtat then doon there lahtat then roon there lahtat and then up there lahtat then thats you right....cheers mate

dont think Yam has plans for  a revamp of FZ-1. They are pinning much on grabbing street triple sales with the MT.I have posted elsewhere, but really I think many folk are elevating the MT way above what it was intended for.
Dont know  the relevant sales figures, but based on  I have not seen many new 1000cc sports  bikes about in last 2 years, and Fz-1 is deemed to be more sporty than tourer,  I think sales dont justify a revamp. Not yet at any rate.I think Yam will see how well MT 9 goes, and then....just maybe a 1200cc version, which IMO if done right would be worth looking at...
Trouble is, MT09 is not groundbreaking folks is it ?? after all its just copied  the street triple ( but with crap styling) and tried to gain advantage by oversize capacity for the  genre...initial sales will be good cos its priced low, but if its later £500+ plus more than a street ..aint so sure it will sell so well . It needs good reviews and thorough tests before I would part with cash. But then I dont really like how it looks...while  IMO the street looks superb.its the real mccoy .... Smile

we could be years away from an FZ-3 ( or FZ-12 ?)...but to my mind theres still interest in FZS type bikes, its just that these days folk are buying them dressed up as adventure bikes ! cue KTM adventure , duke MS...fazers really in different suits. AND BLOODY DAMN DEARER TO BUY NEW !!  :eek

The only thing tempting me at the moment is the Z1000SX.

It's similar to a standard gen 1 fazer. Why spend the extra money, as it has crap suspension standard and would need money spent to sort it.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

I think the market trend is for bikes to be stripped back to look like streetfighter type bikes or adventure bikes. Basically one extreme to the other. Regarding speed/street triples, mt 09's and aprilia tuono v4r's. I think they are more designed around weekend bikes that give thrills per miles ' Not many as tank range is s#it!' while adventure bikes are for those wishing to travel. Wink

MCN today had the MT-09 up against the Street Triple, Z800, MV800. Oh dear.... the Triumph walked it and the poor old MT-09 did not fare well. The usual Yamaha snatchy throttle and mismatched suspension rates were the main complaints and again, as usual, there's a brilliant bike in there waiting for a loving owner to sort it out.

How about because it is similar to the standard Gen1 fazer, but it is ten years younger? It has traction control and an adjustable screen, and if you want, you can have fitted luggage and/or ABS for not very much extra money.

You may think the standard suspension isn't great, but just how good do you think the original 10 year suspension on a Gen 1 is? And you at lest get remote-preload instead of trying to use a crappy spanner in the muck at the side of the road.
