Dropped Gracegfuly
#1
Last week I gracefuly met the ground  :o (I was actually getting of the bike whilst stationary with side stand down, in gear when gravity took me to the point of no return) and was pinned by my trusty FZS600. Visible damage to near side mirror and casing. Nowt bad its all cosmetic. Got it home and out to work I trotted.

Today has been the first time I have had chance to check it over. So hear are the results:

Damage cosmetic and can be live with
Break fluid and breaks OK
Could not get the tank off to check the radiator level but expansion tank on lowest level. Over flow accounts for this.
Engine oil level not indicating at all and looks as if nothing is in it but was showing between the dots week previous. Ran the bike for 15 mins and no change.

The two above things I am concerned about is the not been able to get tank off so could indicate twisted frame but rides fine. The other is the oil?

All ideas and advice greatly recieved

What do you mean you can't get the tank off? It's only 2 bolts, the fuel line and the fuel indicator leads!

Its the 1 bolt up front that is stubbornly standing its ground. I is charging the drill up in an attempt to free it tomorrow

Hey Daz this will sound real stupid but i dont mind saying it if theres the slight chance that theres a miniscule amount of gain from it.

Ahem

If the bike went down on a particular side, with a decent weight of fuel inside, could it be enough to slightly (very slightly) bend the hinge at the crotch, or more likely foc up the front bolt as it is such a small item.have you tried gently pushing the tank the opposite way near the stem whilst trying to undo the front bolt?,like i say its a stupid suggestion but hey who knows.

My front bolt was mushed & spinning around with only a quarter bite before spinning again so the tank was jumping up.i put it down to a mechanic doing it up wrongly but just maybe theres a trend forming here with yours being tight.maybe my bike had been dropped in the past.

I thought the frame was focced but in the end it was the bolt, i got a new one & all is now nice & tight

How odd. Mine is sweet as a nut! Maybe because I keep having to undo the bugger...  :rolleyes

Plenty of fuel in it and what you say makes sense Noggy. So I will try it out in the morning. It went down with a bang because my shoulder is still aching from last week.

Nick my mistake was going out dog tired for a blast with friends. A mistake that one regrets but my once mint Fazer now has a one of a kind designer art work on its near side and if anyone asks Bansky was the artist.

Plastic welding, body filler, sandpaper and time do a great job! I speak from bitter experience...  :'(

Yeah, I've had my fair share to exaggerate down the pub!  :lol  They all seem funny in hindsight, except for the big one. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.  :\

well put noggy........gracefully dropping your bike is not enough to damage the frame......noggy has hit the bolt on the head here....the front bolt thread is not the best in the world  Wink
One, is never going to be enough.....

Noggy you were spot on and I obviously had a limp wrist when it came to the bolt. The thread has gone mussy but it did not stop me today chasing the big boys and girls around Lincon shire.  Wink

I fitted engin bars but not the ugly full ones, it is just the smaller shorter  lower ones. I did look into the crash bungs but I heard that they can actualy bend your frame as they are adding a  pressure point  whereas the bars spread the stress
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
