Stripped rear caliper bracket thread
#1
Hey everyone,

Just refitting my rear brake caliper and one of the threads for the caliper bracket has stripped. I wasn't cross threading it and I Was hardly putting any force on it when it went (the haynes manual states they should be tightened to 40Nm but It wasn't at any more than about 10Nm when it stripped)so the alloy must have been pretty weak or at least it was on my bracket.

My question is, is this a common thread to strip/common weak point in the alloy? If not then there are plenty of second hand items on ebay. If it's a weak point then I'm not sure i'd trust a second hand one though.

I've tried retapping it with a slightly larger diameter thread size but to no avail. must just be too weak now.

Thanks,

Chris

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Noone??

Not even you Darrsi/yoda?

I'm guessing by the lack of responses that it isn't a common issue and a second hand one will be fine...

Yes, it happened to mine many years ago. Replaced it with a second-hand one off eBay and that's been OK since.
