How far do you go for an MOT
#1
Just had an MOT ,I have a round trip of 150 miles to my nearest bike MOT station ( top end of isle of skye to lochcarron) im probably not the farthest traveled. Any one else have to do a long distance MOT.

"Have to" - No

"Choose to" - Yes

round trip of about 17 miles for my MoT. garage less than 1/2 mile away from my house (probably could piss on it from my upstairs window but wouldnt even if it was on fire) dropped my bike at the last MoT it was in there for. Needless to say it wont be back.

Now take it to one further away (recommended by a pile of other bikers) for the fee of £20

Nearest one is about 4 miles for me but I too choose to bypass that one and head to the next local one at around 8 miles away.

Tank - If your that far from a testing station, maybe you should sweet talk a local car place into starting to do bike MOT's. The equipment needed is minimal and they would save you money overall as well as any other bikers within 30-40 miles of the place.

Half a mile, if that?  :o

Unless I'm in France. Then the garage I use is over 100 miles away, and requires a ferry crossing!  :lol

3 different places

Chasbikes near Waterloo, he does all the couriers and is sympathetic towards scruffiness and loud exhausts

Gordon Swift Motorcycles near Basildon - 2 old boys working out of a small garage in a residential area, well worth a trip just to see the classic bikes they have there, if you need a part for a BSA or a Goldstar chances are they'll have a clean second hand or new old stock part, also a bit mutton so not bothered by loud exhausts.

Elm Park Garage on the A1306 near Rainham, car dealer really but likes old scooters and understands that 1960's brakes were shite so tests accordingly.

All recommended.

The place I go to is about 2 miles away.

The guy who does it is a top bloke and usually gives minor fails as advisories because he knows I'll repair/replace any faults. He's also the owner of a lovely Blackbird sans baffles. Another tester sympathetic to noise.  :lol

I stop at bribing a little extra. If they ask for a blowjob, I draw a line - that's as far as I go!
