Leicester(shire) based bike mechanics ?

I've never done any mechanics but I'd love to learn to do a complete overhaul/service of the bike and understand how it all works and fits together etc.  I am too scared to do stuff like this on my own (I definitely need to have a look at a cam chain).  I'm fine with electrics, but nothing involving timing/gaskets/torque/fuel and/or anything that isn't easily fixable


If anyone wants to teach for fun, tea/coffee/biscuits and pocket money (I'm not a cheapskate but I'm not loaded either) I'd love to hear from you.

Deefer (fellow foccer) does DIY servicing and bike maintenance courses and shouldn't be too far away from you.

It is surprising just by asking for help how you can find help.I enquired on a 4x4 forum about fitting a lift kit to the suspension and soon had the reply,


"if you bring it to Milton Keynes we will fit it for you,we love doing that stuff"


and that was from someone i have never heard of.

Hey Simon,

I'm by no means a mechanic but I've done the vast majority of all the servicing on the last few bikes I've owned, only thing I've not done myself yet is a valve clearance check, but I will probably be doing it when it comes around on the Fazer!
Depending on what you want doing/to learn, I could probably give you a hand - I haven't ever worked on the Fazer 600 specifically before though, but the basic principles will be the same for any bike!
If you haven't already got one, I'd definitely recomend getting a Haynes manual, using one of those you could literally strip and rebuild the bike if you so wanted, they're very good indeed
