Like in one of the other posts I have a KMH speedo with a sticker that is lifting - how easy is it to swap seedo faces over from another set of clocks? - Is it doable and has anyone done it?

I dont want to nacker the clocks but would like to keep the millage correct or I would just put the other clocks staight on.

Just found this page and think the thou clocks must be the same so I think I will give it a go

What are you actually doing??....putting a KMH sticker over a KMH damaged sticker or converting a damaged KMH sticker to a MPH sticker. If it's the latter, I'm at a loss on how you will keep the milage correct. The mileage and trip are recorded on the digital clocks and will still read in KPH. You will only see what you are doing "speed wise" without having to calculate. But that shouldn't be a bother anyway. My bike is in MPH even though we are in Kilometers over here in Ireland. But it's no big deal once I remember to do three simple things...to keep withing 30mph in urban areas, to keep within 60mph in Main roads and to keep within 75mph on Motorways.

You also said that you are lifting the sticker off another set of clocks.....why not swap the clocks over??

I am planning to replace a KPH face ( with a crap MPH sticker on it) with a complete MPH face ( not a sticker) from another set of clocks.

Yes I know my millage will still be recorded in KPH but the set MPH of clocks I have to do the face swap with has got space ship millage and didnt want that - as I dont think you can reset the recorded millage - which I would if I could

if you know what I mean  !

Unless the original KPH was damaged, I would have left it alone to begin with. We use Kilometers now over here and my Bandit and Fazer are in UK miles and it never was a problem once I know the three road speed limits (urban, main road, motorway) off my heart in miles.

Just seems like an awful lot of trouble to begin with when there was already miles printed on the clock. On my clock, there is kilometers printed (abeit smaller) in notable yellow print that is still quite usable. Even though I know were you are coming from, if I was buying the bike off you down the road, I'd be a bit iffy about the clocks after been played around with even if nothing sinister was done to them....just my thoughts.

I think rather than taking the clocks apart I think I will put on the MPH clocks with the high millage and see if I can get the millage adjusted to the correct ammount that is on the original clocks.

Not illegal to correct a replacement set of clocks to show the millage of the clocks they are replacing

No they don't. It's illegal if you attempt to show the vehicle has done less miles than it actually has. In this case, he's trying to make them show the correct mileage. Not a problem.

I s'pose now it's a computerised system then previous MOT's would show up, i didn't think of that.  :rolleyes

looks like getting the millage corrected could end up being an expencive ball ache! So I guess I will be taking the clocks appart and swapping the faces after all - or just putting the original clocks back on for MOTs

Out of curiosity, what was the cost or how would you go about getting the digital clocks adjusted?

Not many people up here do it - there is a mobile service who want £99 min charge - which for what I want is a bit steep , however if I had a swanky car that needed sorting I guess that would not be expencive- Aberdeen prices I guess !

It's a bit expensive alright unless you are trying to illegally alter the mileage to get the cost up on your car/bike. You could make your money back then plus even make a bigger profit. My Bandit 1200 is mint with 40k miles on it. If I got the clocks adjusted to about 16k (which wouldn't be amiss as shes mint), then it would add an extra 500-1000 quid onto the value of it no problem.

It wouldn't be my thing to do such a thing, to be honest....but I was wondering how easily it can be done because my Fazer had 23k miles on it, but i'm very suspicious about the mileage. The camchain went on it not long after I bouoght it, and the front brake discs were under the limit too. I just felt that these were gone too early on a 23k bike. Maybe my Bandit 12 is better built, but the camchain is still perfect and the discs were still just above the limit after 40K miles.

Having done a google, I have heard of one guys camchain going at about 21k miles and some guys who were hard on the brakes have worn their discs out at 20k too. But I find it hard to believe that 3 owners before me put up an average of just 8k miles each especially the first owner. I remember when I bought my Bandit new...I did 16k miles in the first year...you couldn't get me off it!!

I have no problem if my Fazer was high mileage as I have seen some still going strong after 70k miles, but I would like to have known anyway.

Why not drop the clocks out from the casing ( easy job ). Get an artist's paint brush and matt black out the figures and lines and then stick a new MPH sticker on the actual speedo dial and rebuild.

I did that on a 400 Fazer and it looked fine... Only tip would be to hair dryer the clocks before re-assembly to remove any damp air.

My German ain't great....but it seems that company only sells all KPH clock faces. He needs a MPH clock for the UK.

Thanks for all your ideas - I'm trying to get away from stickers so the paint and stickers idea is not really any better than what I've got currently.


I have already got a second set of fazer clocks that work fine the only problem is the high mileage on them - hence the idea to swap faces or correct the mileage ....


What I have decided to do as my plan is to keep the bike for a while is to put on the MPH clocks on and not get bothered about the mirage sudden increase!


at least this way the trip meter will now will be reading is miles and not Km which can be a pain.


The only reason for the change was I didn't like the look of the sticker as it was starting to bubble and wasn't as clear as the proper MPH clocks
