Been away for a few days-came home & put battery on charge. Once fully charged with ignition on all lights up OK but there is VERY SLIGHT click from fuel pump relay & NO CLICKING WHATSOEVER from fuel pump which it always has done up til now. Dont have meter to test these components so was thinking of taking suspect items to dealer for them to test. Plugs remain dry & bike cranks and turns over but absolutely refuses to start so I suspect lack of fuel.
I did take relevant connectors apart-no damp or corrosion present-Anyone else had this happen?
Check for spark before you assume it's fuel-related.
The fuel pump only cycles at switch-on if the fuel level has dropped in the float bowls.
Fuel pump failure is rare. Rather than mess around removing and taking to dealer, lift the tank and connect a fuel hose direct from the fuel tap to the fuel line into the carbs. Gravity feed will be more than enough to prove whether or not this is a fuel starvation issue.
Alarm / immobliser related ??
Thanks for advice guys. Have ruled out fuel pump& relay-both working. So its probably related to the (now 10 +year old) immobiliser. Has gone off to dealer for investigation.I noticed the main loom from immobiliser runs straight to ECU but being "electronically challenged" dont know howthese little boxes work-presume they interrupt ignition circuit? Checked paperwork that came with bike its a Datatool Duo installed from new in Dec 2002 so its probably developing electrical alzheimers!

I think it might be a good idea to get it removed or replaced if you feel the need
to have an immobiliser.
As i did have a meta 357V1 fitted to my bike from new by the previous owner
in 2004. with no red card or pin number it had to go as a precaution i did not want
to be stuck some where unable to start the bike.
when i do go out on the bike it tends to be 150 mile round trips or i did go to Europe
2 years ago. and i might go this year.

Just had my data tool duo ripped out as it gave up the ghost. Most of its life I worked fine but last few months it started getting tempermentle then finaly let me down a few times. When it let me down it was symptoms along the same lines as yours but not identical. Cost me £30 to have the shop remove it. Money well spent
I have a meta 357 fitted to mine when new and, so far it's worked. My only worry was that it was connected direct into the loom, so if it fooks up it will be fun trying to sort it! I don't think bikes and alarms generally work well, as battery flattens and starting issues. Get a big ba##ard lock!
If it's broken, it's not fixed.
FWIW, try a new fuel filter, and make sure fuel lines and breather pipes aren't kinked or twisted.
What mileage is on it, and has it had any recent work done?
Has it been stood for any length of time over winter?
Hadnt ridden bike from November til beginning of Feb but kept in warm environment & trickle charged battery every 2 weeks.Occasionally ran bike up to temp & started fine every time. Rode 2x in Feb last time 28th & was running/starting ok. Bought bike @ 22000m Aug 2011 now showing 24500m. Have done ALL the service jobs including valve check & replaced fuel filter 12 months ago. Hoses all ok. Battery was new Jan 2012. Having drained tank & float bowls & put fresh petrol in bike would crank over fine but would not fire up apart from the occasional backfire which didnt impress the cat (4 legged not the one in exhaust!)
I got my local dealer to pick up bike on Wed pm. Think I will phone them today & ask them to remove immobiliser anyway-it must be suspect after 10+ years & I dont fancy being marooned when travelling-even with the free recovery on my ins policy! Will let you know what they discover! :rolleyes
Called into local dealer this am & have asked them to completely remove the Datatool Duo immobiliser which has been on bike from new Dec 2002.
Am away for a few days from tomorrow but they will text me when they have identified problem. Will let you know outcome on return.
