Morning all! New FZS 600 '98 owner W/pics :)

Based in Birmingham most of the year. I picked her up this Saturday just gone, very happy with her I must say...

Had a little niggle however since washing the bike yesterday, spluttering a little through the lower revs. I did come across your thread regarding the perished inlet pipes, as I discovered a large crack ran through all of mine. I've since used a repair silicone to seal up all that I can access and this has improved the matter somewhat. However I plan to inspect the air box at some point today to make sure I haven't filled it with water. Anybody else had any troubles after washing down?

Unfortunately the bike was sat for several months before i bought her so I'm expecting a few things to pop up now she'sin regular use again. Some autoglym polish has done the bodywork wonders mind you... More pics to follow this afternoon.

check the plugs and caps and also that the plug drain holes are clear  .......nice bike    shame its black

looks a nice 600 you got there and in the best colour    as already mentiond check plugs,caps etc and like you say check  airfilter(maybe replace if not been done for a while?) if bikes been sat like you say the petrol will have gone off so maybe drain tank and carbs and fill with new and that might help (petrol goes off bloody quick now!)  possible needs a carb ballance etc?

Thanks Took the plug leads off and gave them a little clean with contact cleaner, seems to have done the trick but still has the odd splutter and a little rough idle.

I plan to do a little self service with the next 2 weeks, plugs, oil, air filter, one shot red-ex etc.. that should clean her out.

Yeah personally I prefer the black. Not sure what the general opinion is on this forum with replacing the front fairing. But I'm thinking of fitting a modest 7 inch lamp and some bar end mirrors. Depends on whether I can deal without the wind protection though. Anyone else on the forum gone the naked route with the fzs?

Condition isn't bad, but there's a crack running through the fairing, scratches near the grab handle, scrape on the exhaust and crash bungs where its been dropped previously but nothing overly unexpected. Pretty high mileage at 50,000 but has plenty of service history with Yamaha and helped me bargain the seller down to the small sum of £750. (Student Budget  :rolleyes )

Wanted a bike that could also serve as a running project. I've missed tinkering around with bikes. In an ideal world I'd like to create something similar to this..

I do like the naked/streetfighter look. Could possibly do with s/steel downwnpipes as a finishing touch maybe. 8)

I'd keep the fairing. Or, if it's too far gone to repair, pattern ones are available at a sensible price.
Doesn't matter how well done a streetfighter conversion is, it always shouts "crashed bike" to me.
The fairing also makes a huge difference to wind blast, if you intend to ride any distance at motorway speeds.
