Cush drive rubbers

Hi all.

I have agen 1 bike with 137k on the club.
About 12k ago I put atop of the range tsunami chain and sprockets on the bike and have had to continually adjust the chain since day 1 of fitting.


My main Yamaha dealer mentioned to me that if you retain the Cush drive rubbers much past c30k chain wear be accelerated.


As I still have the original Cush drive rubbers on the bike I am putting two and two together and am wondering if this could be the reason for the continual chain adjustments?


Any comments would be appreciated.

That doesn't sound a very likely explanation unless there is slop between the drive dogs and wheel hub, which you would probably have noticed anyway.
(I had that happen once on a Kawasaki GPz305 and glued some rubber strips in there to give a tight fit again.)
The cush drive on my FZS600 is still good despite passing the 30,000 mile mark a decade ago. The thou' may be different and so may be your riding style, but I'd not expect to have to change cush rubbers at every chain&sprocket replacement!

Remove wheel and have look at them...if loose..and I'm mean loose enough that they fall out of the carrier..cut up old bike inner tube and use to take up slack...or splash out on new cushion rubbers at yam prices....on my 03 and 46 miles iv had no problems

i had a similar problem, it turned out my sprocket carrier bearing was seized and was grabbing hold of my spindle slightly and moving it forward in the swing arm under acceleration.
