Just found a full tin of brasso
Anyone used it on bike bits before?
Says excellent results on brass, copper, stainless steel and chrome so was thinking about doing the foot peg brackets/hangers as they look a bit tatty but im not sure about the laquer as it is patchy/part worn off,
Suppose the best way to find out is give it a try but if anyones had that idea before and failed i'd appreciate the advice.

don't think they're lacquered. mine aren't anyway. try a bit of the polish on the back and if you're cloth goes black then they're not lacquered.
As any ex squadie will tell you yes it will give a great shine on un lacquered alloy - but once you start you will spend the rest of your life re-polishing it , as what the polish does is remove the protective coating of oxide that makes the metal look dull.
However if masochism is your bag and you want shiny metal work ( I feel you pain as I also own an old BSA with stupid amounts of chrome) you may find Autosol paste is better for the job as it is easier to use and control the amount you apply as too much brasso and you will spend hours buffing before you see a shine.

I've got the Brasso wadding and it does a good job, easier than the Autosol but once shiny you have created a rod for your own back!
Thanks chaps, its a job for the night shifts, will give me something to do other than work, i had kinda hoped it would be as simple as keeping up the polishing, like a quick buff now and again but nothing could be that simple,
I might give it a go with a coat of laquer
They just seem to be so prominent and i cant help notice how filthy they are
I could always powder coat them i suppose.
