Just bought fzs 600 1999 Tuning question.
#1
Hello foccers, Just bought 'winter wheels' fzs 600 1999. I've been a member on this forum for years as i have an ivanised 2004 fazer 1000. My question - Is there a specific site for tuning mods for the 600? The 1000 forum has 'mike' who ivanises them in the uk and 'pats tuning page'

Very little tuning info for the 600 as there isn't that much more to be squeezed out of it, unlike the 1000.

K&N filter & open pipe seems to be the usual way people go, dynojet kits not really rated for this model.

Its got a micron race can, but i don't know if the jetting has been modified. Going to check the air filter tomorrow to see if its stock. Can the 600 be run with a high flow filter and race can on stock settings?

Checked air filter. Its standard and clean Smile . I don't know if this is a common issue, but when bike is cold it struggles to pull past 5000 rpm. It is almost like a 2 stroke clearing it's self out when you first open it up. Once it's revved passed 5000 rpm its fine and revs freely with no issues.

......sounds like similar problem ade the blade had?...he ended up re-jetting and was superb after that?...some end cans are fine without?..but some just need that bit extra fuel!!....i have a harpoon race can on mine std jetting plus k&N and its lush!! Wink

Could be the race can itself. do you have access to a standard can to experiment with? I had a race can on my previous 600 + BBC filter "same as KN"  the mid range was hopless. I don't recal seeing any good results on this or previous forum  for re jetting the 600.
At the moment I have a Carbon Can co baffled  after market can, with after market SS front  pipes + KN  this sounds ok and goes well but I'm not sure its better than standard. The KN filter fills in the mid rang a little

I have still to pick up the original can from the seller, so might try that to see if it helps.

I think the general consensus is that this engine runs rich from factory so not sure main jets would do much. You could raise the needles a notch or 2 . I think Yamaha got this engine as good as it gets . As an after thought ,I have never seen any horsepower charts before and after tuning for the 600 either. Unlike the thou !

I fitted Iridium plugs last week when I serviced my 600.

Can't feel any difference...

Lucky they were cheap from Ace Parts and will last longer supposedly.
