Avon and Somerset Police Bikesafe 2nd June £30
#1
At the Castle Coombe race track- an hour observed ride 2:1 Police rider and then 15 minutes on the track as a taster

I did it last year and already booked my place for this year

If you have never been on a track this is the opportunity for a taster.... plus Bikesafe for £30

Exhibitions and stalls

Excellent!

Been watching the avon and somerset site for a while waiting for this to be bookable, but it still just tells me .....

We also organise our 1 day BikeSafe event at Castle Combe Circuit which is to be held on June 02nd 2012.
Following an assessed ride by a Police Rider, motorcyclists have the opportunity to explore their machines capabilities on the circuit! More information will be available shortly.

Hampshire are offering Bikesafe events on 19th February, 11th March and 1st April 2012, but these are "discounted" to only £60!! Sad

It actually probably would work out cheaper to go all the way to Castle Combe from Portsmouth (including fuel) than go to the event local to me...

cool, on the track i am sure i will be watching your numberplate as you pull away from the old breathless gen 1 then Tongue
i am glad its still fairly early on in the year as i want to do a full track day at castle comb at some time this year so a quick 15 mins will let me know if i will go for that or to brands.

Hehehe...never done a track day at all so will just be getting used to it when they call time I bet!

Off topic but my mate asked me about wearing 1 or 2 piece leathers. I only have textiles but any trackday i've looked into before will only allow leathers. However, i've checked all the small print for this booking and there's no mention.

What do you reckon?

Odd you mention it, as i was looking for that detail as well.
Every track day run at castle comb is full/2 piece full zip leathers only. i did go on the castle comb forum last year trying to find the answer and never got a reply.
this year it isnt a problem as i have a 2 piece but i was thinking about doing this for my daughter but she has textiles.

Only thing i can sugest is ring

would be interested in any answer you get. the 2-1 on road shouldnt be an issue it would be just the track time that "may" be a problem

I am on 11-2 as well with my blue FZ6 and my lad on his Blackbird and a few other mates from Wales

I think they are happy as long as you wear decent kit with armour

They are hot on exhaust noise and there is a sound check at 2/3rds redline and 105db. Apparently some new bikes with OEM exhausts dont make it but a Fazer with standard is OK

To be honest, I wasted my opportunity last year as I ran behind tail end charlie the second instructor and couldnt keep up. The pack of about 20 bikes goes out with two instructors one front and one rear. They set the pace to warm your tyres and also show you the lines but the pack gets so strung out with no overtaking that some are half a lap back and no idea what the line is. If you can get to the front of the pack even if you wait for the next pack to go out. There is no timespan for when you go for your slot really.

After a couple of laps they allow overtaking with the faster guys taking the slower ones only on the straights- no-one will overtake you on a bend as there are cones for that and braking points

It is all explained at the track briefing which you have to attend or you dont go out.

Hang around the fence and watch the others go round and if you have a camera take it on the bike but dont have a flat battery like mine  :'(

Check out

Castle Combe Bike Track Day 10/8/11 Z1000 GoPro

To get an idea of the track- this is 15 minutes and it is all over way too fast

I had never been on a track before and started off riding like on the road rather than ragging it- maybe I will be quicker this time. I guess relax and enjoy

If I remember  rightly you had a non standard zorst on your FZ1. Will it pass the sound check, or do you have the original to refit? I can recall my mate had an R1 with a blue flame exhaust with the baffles in and it still failed :o

Regarding 2 piece/1 piece leathers.

This is the info from the circuit website. Not sure whether they will make exceptions for the 15 minute Bikesafe run.

No-one checked our leathers and I think it says in the bikesafe information some where about appropriate clothing Lots of people had textiles on

Forgot to say- if you have riden a long way dont forget to top your tank off before you get there as you are riding for an hour on the bikesafe and then go on track for 15 minutes- dont want to run out  :o on track

Nearest petrol I know of is at Pensylvania off the Bath junction of the M4 towards Bath about three- four miles

10:15 registration so by the time you have got petrol and ridden back to the track and parked up and had a waz you need to leave home fairly early  :rolleyes well we do anyway as it is getting on two hours from Mid Wales

Looking forward to it already  :evil

When I did my 15 min taster session at brands last year the gen 1 thou with blue flame can, ivans, air box mod and ignition Advanced. passed with both baffels fitted. I think it hit 101.  Was going to try 1 baffel this time but have the 2nd one with me incase it failed.

Brands did the same thing about overtakes on straights only. You did get the odd guy be a Muppet and dive up your inside. Stupid as hell as we were all told NOT to watch mirrors and move them so we couldn't see.
Lucky on my turn it was just the 1 prick. If they had seen him do it they normally remove them from track.

I found just as the 15 mins ended I was getting more relaxed and enjoying it rather than thinking I was holding everyone up. If you do think you are holding someone up I just didn't nail it on the straight so i was an easy pass but still had my fun.

For me the key was just enjoy it. I wasn't there to set lap records and dump my bike.

Yeah, got a Mivv can with baffle fitted. It's not mega loud but could quite possibly fail the 105 limit. I'll be gutted if it does but there's nothing I can do about it, I do have the original can I suppose without EXUP but might be a big effort just for 15 mins track time!?!

Brace,
You could take a trip to the circuit before the Bikesafe date and get them to check your exhaust. This is a service they offer to trackday bods who think their exhaust might be above 105db.

Yeah I might do that Pete, any excuse for a ride out anyway and it's not a million miles away  Smile . That way, if it does fail I know that I will have to fit the OEM can back on.

Nice one :thumbup

I have done a track day at castle combe and noise levels ar every very strictly enforced. I dont think any loud can will pass. I put my stock can on and passed on my gen1.
