TPS Adjustment

I have changed my clocks to the electronic set up provided by Danny a couple of years ago.

I have tried to message him but his inbox is full so I doubt he is still on the forum.

I would like to check my TPS but realise I don't have the rev counter and probably cant use the electronic one. Does anybody know if the electronic unit would work and if, as I suspect, it won't, how else can I check without refitting my old clocks.

Since you've junked the OEM gauge cluster, only way forward is a multi-meter.
Try this way, it works for just about all TPS setups.
Ignitor will revert to a full throttle ignition timing if TPS is not set correctly, or it's unplugged, it'll still run regardless but not at optimum.
Access TPS loom plug, back probe with pins, connect a multi-meter set to DC volts, you'll not blow anything, switch connections around till you see DCV showing on meter, warm bike up till you've a steady idle, adjust idle to 1100-1200rpm, loosen TPS screws & rotate till you see a 0.5v reference @ idle, nip up 1 screw & blip throttle a few times to confirm voltage drops back to 0.5v @ idle, nip up 2nd screw, check for any change in voltage.?

@Gaz66 Thank you for providing the above instructions. I haven't actually junked the cluster, they are in my spares pile somewhere. As a last resort I could hunt through and fit them but the job would take hours. Your method seems just as accurate but will take a lot less time.

We are due for thunderstorms this weekend but as soon as its dry I'll do what you say above and report back, just in case somebody else has the same issue.

Have you tried it, since the TPS is attached to the ignitor and it is the the ignitor that sends the signal to the tach0 then it probably would work on the new instruments if the Tacho works

I've been away for work. I'm going to try the TPS adjustment this weekend. I'll update when I've done it. Thank you for your input, it's always very helpful

So the TFT dash does appear to work the same as the analogue rev counter. I disconnected the lead to the TPS and turned ignition on. The rev counter showed 3k then dropped back. I reconnected the TPS and it showed just under 5k. I don't think it is far out. I have a BMC performance air filter fitted and I think it needs a clean. If I remove it, get my son to adjust the carbs because I can never find the screws, then fit a cleaned air filter next week, will I have wasted my time adjusting the carbs? The air box will be empty and clean so no restrictions, the same as a newly cleaned performance filter?

The TPS only has 3 positions 0, 5,000 and 10,000..
If you had rotated the TPS it would have register O in one direction around 5,000 in the centre and around 10,000 in the other direction..
Yours was around f the 5000 mark which is fine

It might have been the TFT dash which made the difference. When I disconnected the TPS and turned the ignition on I got 3K show on the rev counter. It takes some time for the TFT dash to show and that might be why the 3k dropped slowly.

When I actually adjusted the TPS the rev counter was showing 0K. I turned the TPS unit and the rev counter moved up to just before 5K. I turned the TPS a little more and the rev moved up to 5K. I locked off the TPS at that point.

We adjusted the carburettors and the TPS. I've not ridden the bike since but it seems much smoother and revs freely.

Its nice when you spend time carrying out maintenance and you have made a difference to the machine in a positive way.
