Scrotes on E bikes an upside ?

Driving standards vary from country to country - be that the UK, France, Poland or deepest darkest Peru. It has nothing to do with colour and that was not mentioned so lets stop with the bear poking or people will find themselves on the naughty step.

I agree with what has been said above regarding the delivery riders and drivers - from all nationalities - bringing the average level of competence down on the roads and pavements in this country. Its high time the police randomly cordoned off town centres and seized all the illegal e-bikes that the delivery riders are using. We should go one step further too - ban the ability to get business insurance without a full licence - end delivery drivers on L plates so you know they have been tested at a minimum standard.

At the end of the day, its all out own fault (well not mine obviously) as we all order more online rather then go to the shops ourselves and getting food delivered hot to your door as we are too lazy to even go and pick up the takeaway ourselves it seems now. this means more and more riders required but as we are too tight to pay the real cost of getting this delivered - think about it - £10 an hour plus fuel etc would mean the driver should get say £5 per delivery plus their costs covered - maybe £8 to get your Big Mac delivered - but you only pay £1 or whatever - so we get people using the cheapest transport and the quickest way to get there - riding on pavements etc - to get the food delivered and onto the next delivery.

Maybe we should just ban food deliveries?

Last time I randomly ordered food online was a few years ago.
Kept seeing an advert on TV for a Steak & Cheese baguette from Subway and it looked pretty damn good. I'd had a busy day so thought sod it, I'll try that.
Order turned up on a scooter screeching to a halt after just 20 minutes, and even I thought that was a bit too quick.
Opened up the packaging and it looked like they'd got it out of a skip.
Shop was 1 mile away and charged me £11 for the privilege.
Never again.

A rider on L Plates *will* have been "tested to the minimum standard", because they will have had to do CBT which is the minimum standard to ride a moped and hold a provisional licence and a business should have insurance for riders they employ.

Having said that, though, the terms of your own insurance very likely say that, unless you've added specific cover, it doesn't include food deliveries, yet I know for a fact that there are riders and drivers who use their own vehicles effectively uninsured to do this work because the extra cover is too expensive.

Meanwhile, you do not, however, have to have a licence or have done CBT or anything else to ride an e-bike and work for a Gig Economy delivery service which will only pay you a few quid per delivery.

Theoretically you can earn at least the minimum wage, but many average less than that Are food delivery riders being exploited by the gig economy?

Interestingly, I mention in passing, that report also says that "Ethnic minorities are more likely to rely on food delivery as a primary source of income", although it says nothing about their riding abilities.

Of course there's also the fact that e-bikes are supposed to be restricted to 15mph and you should only be able to go above that if you're pedalling, yet clearly there are many illegal e-bikes out there which go a lot faster, but there's a great lack of enforcement to deal with them.

As for banning food deliveries, it would put a bunch of legitimate companies out of business (Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa Johns etc) it would also very probably just result in more people delivering illegally, knowing the chances of them getting caught are minimal and the businesses they deliver for claiming "Nothing to do with us, Squire, we thought they were delivering on foot!"

Have you seen how many actually use this forum now. The over MOD-ing by grahamm because some post does not align with his political views has single-handedly killed this forum. Ther is no one left to ban.
When I say Community I am referring the the indian/pakistan area of my city. Its common knowledge from experience of driving in those areas everyone knows what its like to drive there and its avoided if possible. It is chaotic and dangerous, the common phrase when talking to friends about it is "i know, no one seems to know to drive there"--- its not based on any prejudice or something read in the daily mail - its based on experience over many years.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
