Misfiring FZS1000

I’ve got a spare coil with 2 caps on the way so at least will have a part for substitution if needed.

An overdue update.

Had a busy summer with home renovations so parked the bike up and haven’t done much more with it after replacing one of the coils a while back. First test ride today. 

Did 20 miles and bike ran perfect. Not declaring it fixed because the it’s been rather intermittent so needs more testing.

During the fault finding I’ve found / sorted / upgraded a few bits.

• Replaced TPS as it had a tiny glitch.
  
• Cleaned out all 4 plug caps and replaced one of the coils with second hand unit (including leads / caps)
  
• Found high resistance in ignition switch which is now cleaned and fixed.
  

• Fitted MOSFET reg / rec from a Triumph as the voltage was a bit low. Part of this was voltage drop on the loom so now have cabling back to battery.
  
• Got a new battery on order as the current one is a bit weak. Holds voltage but cranking power is diminished. Can’t complain though because this battery is an unbranded one which was fitted in 2010! 
  

So let’s see if this is the end of the story - will endeavour to do some further test rides if the weather holds up heading into autumn.

Done around 400 miles now and all is good. 

Hard to say with definitive certainty exactly which intervention fixed it in the end. But at least the old girl lives on and difficult to replicate the thrill of an FZS1000 on other bikes with less power!
