Rear fog light
#1
Hiya fellas, now I know you don't see bikes with rear fog lights and have seen numerous cars with rear fogs in their rear clusters. Is there any legislation as to why? Distance from running light? (about 6 inches max on cars). Distance from number plate? Anyone have any answers?

Reason being that I won't one - not for fog mind cos I can't remember the last time the fog was thick enough to warrant it (thick enough drivers all too quick to slap them on when it rains mind grrrrrr).

No, I won't one cos i'm sick to shit of being tailgated by arse wipes down the motorway - you can slow down, brake lightly or gesture as much as you want but some cnuts still sit there. I figure that one of my front spot lights with a bit of red film aimed backwards would help so any answers would be much appreciated.

Cheers

That's the whole idea - blind the cnut so he backs off  :2guns

What great thinking, there is a twat driving right up your rear end on a motorway at I guess 70 Mph and you wish to dazzle then or distract them. Best of luck with that idea.
I always pull out of their way and let them pass.

Yup, that's the general idea. Thanks for the support in ensuring my safety.

Last night i had a scooter sitting behind me, with his headlight tipped upwards that blinded the fuck out of me in my mirror, then was blinded by about six cars with misdirected fog lights all switched on aimlessly, and had 3 cars tailgating me, all on the way home from work.
I don't trust anyone who has the mentality to drive so close to be able to stop in an emergency, and i will normally slow down and take control of the road.  :grumble

I'm all for blinding fools like that but there are two points to consider;
  • as chris.biker has already mentioned, it might not be wise to distract a driver so close behind you as you may come off worse
  • if you are seen to be doing such a thing by your friendly M-Way cop, he might not be so friendly too you
Maybe I'm a bit long in the tooth but the simplest thing to do really is just let the prick past and get on with your day Wink

I have done this in the car on the motorway and slowed down but they still haven't overtaken me, its like I was not going fast enough for them at 70 but they are scared to go into the middle lane to overtake
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

The rules can be found here

http://bob.ollis-brown.co.uk/manuals/msva-manual.pdf

basically, you can have them but not mandatory and must be 100mm or more from the stop light, have a tell tale and not be able to be turned on without the other lights already being on.

It is a strange one though about bikes not having a rear fog light. Maybe they just think that no biker would be stupid enough to ride in the fog Big Grin

Top man BB, cheers. As said, I don't trust anyone who sits way too close to me to stop in time so the light should make him back off. Tried moving over as mentioned but they seem to like looking at your back tyre and follow you as if you're their pace maker.

If you're coming down a rammed motorway at 6pm with all 3 lanes stacked at whatever speed, then half the time their is no bloody space to pull over anyhow.

As for the old bill giving me a tug......that'd be a 1st - NEVER seen anyone tugged for use of front or rear fogs in rain when they blind the feck out of bikers leaving you seeing starbursts. Will post pics when done and you can post replies  :thumbup

Nearly got hit by a Tesco delivery driver last night on the way home from work as i was sitting waiting to enter a roundabout.
In his defence though he probably never spotted the Hi-Vis on my top box or jacket because he was so fucking close his headlights were left and right of me.  :wall
