EXUP Valve again

:'( o/k just bought a fazer 1000 only to find exup valve seized, read all the guides so much spraying of Plusgas on bolts, my question is if I disconnect the pulley from valve should they then move when ignition is turned on, or is this a no no, when I turn ignition on cables do not move, does this mean cables are seized or serve motor buggered

Hi Rob and welcome.

With the pulley disconnected from the cables, you should be able to pull each cable end and feel the servo move as well with some resistance from the motor, of course. 

If it doesn't, disconnect the cables at the servo and check the cables for free movement in each direction.

If the cables seem OK, apply 12volts direct to the servo terminals.  It should rotate under power.

Many with seized bolts, not so many with the valve itself seized.  Servo failures are rare, cables can fray internally, though.

And yes, it makes a difference so worth persevering to get it fixed.

Bit of an update, bolts out, snapped one  :rolleyes  now drilled out and re-tapped, valve removed, seized solid at pulley end, now soaking in plus gas for a couple of days then gentle application of hammer should see the bugger move  8)

Now all in bits    only problem is what size are the bolts so I can get stainless replacements 3 for valve, 3 for cover, and 1 for pulley, with any luck this should be me last question on sodding exup valves  :lol

all 6 are m6
3 x 10mm hex head
3 x 15mm Allen heads

Not sure about the pulley but I'm guessing it wont be far off!!! will be M6 with same pitch just need to measure your length! haha

The pulley is M5, if I recall correctly.  Doesn't usually require changing.

Robbo recently measured the bolts on this thread - http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,19878...#msg229514

"The cover is M6 x 10mm the valve M6 x 16mm the pulley centre is M5 x 12mm and the cover on the other end of the valve (RH side of the bike) is M4 x 6mm"

Ghostbiker kindly let me have a set of replacement stainless bolts that he put together for members a few years back, they are all allen heads which makes things easier.
