Armstrong Wavey Brake Discs

I have a pair of these on my Gen 1. When I had EBC HH pads fitted the discs would 'ring' and this got quite loud under heavy braking. I have now fitted OEM pads and the discs 'grab' as the bike comes to a stop. Its driving me mad. I've put my original discs back on but they very slightly warped.

Has anybody any experience of Armstrong discs?

Does anybody know who the manufacturers/importers are?

Can I have my original discs skimmed?

I've had these on mine for about 4 years now and use EBC HH pads with no problems, mate. 

Got them from SG Motorsport and fitted them the same time as the R1 front end.

Hi Mike, Do you get any noise from them at all? My EBC pads made a load of noise which was strange because I never had any noise from the original discs. Its put me off of after market discs, especially wavy discs.

I have the same model bike that came with Armstrong wavey discs, the pads are also Armstrong. They do feel a bit 'wooden' but i dont mind that as i can use them hard without worrying about tyre grip esp in the wet, otherwise they have no issues. I would suspect you have a piston ( or more ) that is not releasing fully to the point that you come to a halt.

As far as i know Armstrong discs are not imported, they are a long established british company making quality products.

Can I have my original discs skimmed?

From all the info I have been given over the years, I don't believe so. The fact they float on the carries would make tat job I believe, very difficult.

But if your discs have next to no wear or are over tolerance you 'might' and I stress might be able to atleast try. Just dont skim them under tolerance otherwise they will fail an mot.

No noise that I would consider unusual, Shaun, certainly not a ringing sound.  They are probably more 'raspy' than the smooth-surfaced stock discs but this is to be expected.

A ringing sound might just be a resonance thing - like a wet finger on a wine glass - have you tried slackening and re-torque'ing the disc bolts?

I'll put them back on and give that a try then. I take the brake pads out and clean the calliper fairly regularly. I wonder why I don't get the 'grabbing' with the standard discs?

I'll give it a go but the discs are nearly new!!
