Welcome Chris.
The FZ1 uses the same engine as the R1 2004 model....i think they call it the 5VY or something......but to the best of my knowledge (very limited tbf) the chassis is different....well it must be otherwise it'd be an R1 :lol ......silly me....anyways. It seems like one of those mods whereby it'd be easier to buy the R1 & make it more like the FZ1 than it would be to convert the FZ1 to the R1 if that makes sense.......plus it'll roast your cahones mate :eek . But yep...id say buy the R1 & get a wide bar conversion kit and youll prob have a better bike.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Ok there are couple issues with this idea which I'm sorta sorting out
1. The swinging arm allows no space to route under neath Solution is to fit r1 04-06 swinger I'll let you know how that works soon 2.assuming arm fits hangers will need to be made and some link pipe connection made as r1 link pipe goes through arm -the sump is different so r1 headers wont work As with most of this sorta thing I collect the bits first then do a dry run so it's a case of watch this space I'm on it
