luggage system for FZS600?
#1
Hi. Does anyone know what luggage system might work on my 2003 FZS600? I want to be able to attach top box and hard side panniers if possible. Thanks.

Wingracks are really the way forward if hard luggage is what you want. I've done endless searching for luggage options.

Soft is the cheapest and easiest to obtain. Wingracks are the most obvious choice for 3 case set ups but the fitting kits are near impossible to get hold of (took me nearly a year). There is one on eBay at the moment so if your serious about hard luggage I'd do a search (I also posted a link on someone's post in the sale/wanted section).

If money is no issue then sw motech do some excellent luggage systems that you can buy whichever plate for whatever luggage (givi, hepco Becker krauser etc.). The pannier rails are removable when you don't want them (unlike Wingracks but I've managed to set mine up in a way that with 4 bolts I've attached it). The motech systems are about £180 for the pannier rails and c.£100 for the top box rack (not sold as a full kit unfortunately). Then your luggage on top.

With the Wingracks a lot of people here recommend givi/kappa e21's if you take pillions due to issues with footpeg space. I can't recommend any pannier sizes at the mo as I'm still looking for a reasonably priced set.

Hope all that helps!!!

I'd recommend a Givi Monokey system, with a 50+ topbox:

Then put a tank pad when needed and soft luggage panniers - they can be locked beneath the seat, and carried over your shoulder easier than two big hard boxes. That's my choice. I also prefer panniers because they cushion a fall and don't break on falls, also they are a bit narrower so you can filter with them.  Smile

Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.

Thanks all for your advice.

ajmes1, do you know whether that wingrack currently on ebay is compatible with the 2003 model FZS600? I asked the seller and she responded as follows:

"look on the give web site and see what the differences.if you got the square head light you are ok fox eye my husband thinks you miss out some spares hope that helps"

I couldn't find anything on the Givi website and the customer services phone line is now closed until Monday (after the ebay sale closes!)...

i don't think there are much differences in what it comes with, the odd spacer that can be made up maybe.

If your not to bad with bodging/making up washers of sorts then it won't be too hard. I think there are some slightly deeper spacers & longer bolts for the grab rail but thats about it, unless anyone knows different.

Truth be told, none of the extra bits for '02/'03 are difficult to make. If you wanted to get it, and struggle to fit it, let me know and I can make you a parts list of what i've got fitted on mine as mine is an '02 foxeye and so should be the same as yours.

Id like to add some hard panniers to my '99, i currently have a givi rack with top box, but could do with additional carrying capacity.
What would be the way to go?
Wingrack - no fitting kit. How difficult would it be to mount it?  What have other people used as brackets and connected it to what? Maybe i can use some of the bracketry from my givi arms?
Givi pannier rack from another model - connect it to my givi arms?
Bodge - some metal strapping with a monokey plate bolted to it?

There was a wingrack on theifbay that someone had modded to fit the '99.

Failing that  a new set of rear footpegs and you'd be able to fit one as I believe that this was the reason behind not being able to fit it. You'd just need to source the kit.

I thought I remember reading on here about someone modding a rack for the fz6 and adapting it to fit without much alteration. Could be one way to go?

I've mixed a Givi top box / rack with Krauser K2 panniers for over 20yrs on more than one bike and found it to be a great system.

The K2 panniers are slim (mid size ones), but hold plenty and they sit on a "boomerang mounting arm that's pretty easy to make up (posh bodge) mountings for and they're easy to fit separately to a Givi rack. You can see the mounting arms on my wife's old VF in the picture below - the panniers fit securely, the arms are unobtrusive and easy to position - these are going on our sons '03 Fazer 600 for our 2week summer tour.

His bike already has a Givi rack fitted - once the Krausers are fitted I'll pop up a pick.

You can see the panniers here on my FJ (Liz is on her Fazer 1000 behind with my Givi top box which she demanded I give her (I picked up the Krauser top box from a mate).

The Krausers actually held more stuff than the really wide throw overs you can see on my best mates Fazer 1000 at the back.

I'd be interested in seeing the krauser rack in place with the givi arms. There's krauser racks on the bay

I just bought a krauser k wing mounting and then fitted the k2 rack to that by removing the wings. Only mod you have to do is remove a bit of plastic on the rack to clear the head on one of the bolts. Lower mountings bolt to the rear foot pegs, top two bolts are in a similar place on both systems. Had to cut the can bracket and turn the can slightly to clear the base of the right pannier enough for a decent air gap above the can. And the make a spacer up and a short bracket with a slight bend to bolt it all up.

Will have to post a few pictures once all is together properly.

I went the nonfango route because the panniers were not wider than the mirrors which made it easier to get through tight spots.
They are still going, but very few dealers in the UK now. I have emailed the factory for spare parts and they are very helpful and had any pieces I needed within a week. Pictures with and without the luggage

I posted on here recently about how I fitted a pannier rack from an FZ6 to my FZS600 with very little modification, if this was of any interest to you as an option:
