Hi
Probably gonna get alot of flack for this, i have done off roading on various bikes for many years however until i have done my mod 2 i still have no licence. Yes its my first bike for the road, i am booked in for the test and need no more lessons before hand. I am doing the test on a 650 and even said to the instructor what did he think of me buying a fazer 600 and he said due to my size he would advize me to go for the 1000, my reactions were of fear as i knew what power it has and his words were its the throttle that makes the difference and how much you abuse it. The old school that passed their test then slowly upgraded their bikes never went throught the training we have to do now and its pretty comprehensive some mates i have have had a laugh trying the mod 1 stuff and found it dificult if not possible without practice. I have read and watched all the reviews and this evening i have been out with it with my instructor doing road and some of the mod 1 stuff even though i have passed that part of it i still think its good practice. The bike feels like an old friend who i have not met for some time once re aquainted it feels great. Speed - i am middle aged and admit probably going through a crisis, i wanted one bike and not have to upgrade i went for a 2002 model as i have read the older carbed versions are better than the gen 2 the critics may be wrong but they get one hell of a review a good all rounder and yes if you want to give it some welly it will happily oblige. At the moment and until i actually learn to ride thats after i have passed my test then i will hopfully begin to explore the power after 6-7000 revs but until then it could be a 500,600 or 1000cc as i know i am not prepared to do what the bike is capable of but i am looking forward to the learning curve. f

Slowly then,, :lol
You will have no problem with the 1000,,a 600 will go very very fast so you are the deciding factor,,,think clever ![]() The gen 1 is supposed to be the best all rounder there is,and you will not grow out of it,like a 600 on smaller one. The only thing against the gen 1 is age,,they are getting old,,apart from that there brill. Where you from?

my middle name will be slow for a long time, i live in manchester. As you say i will not out grow it and if i need the power it its there, thought i was gonna be called a fool for having it as my first road bike but its all down to the me and the throttle, i hope my thinking is right. The one i have bought is 12 years old fsh 1 owner datool alarm with 20k on the clock. The bikes got one or two wear marks but other than that its very clean with no rust. Its been garaged all of its life, now in my garage anchored to the ground on its own peice of carpet :lol , the garage is deadbolted and alarmed and i have cctv also. So if they want it fair play to them if they manage it. The age is not a factor to me it will be well cared for and will grow old with me.
