I know there are 5 bolts holding the generator cover on but I have removed them and it still wont budge. Do I have to remove the screw towards the top right of the cover aswell ? Once undone, can the cover just be pulled off or does the generator come off with it ? I only want to take it off to repaint it. Is this more hassle than its worth. I cant seem to find a definitive in the Haynes manual download

two small pins and a big magnet holding it on (its a generator

).....have a couple of weetabix and ease off as straight as you can
One, is never going to be enough.....
Thanks Red. I did wonder if it was the magnetising qualities that were holding it on. The problem is its hard to grip when trying to pull at it :eek Once its off is it easy to realign when putting it back on. If I want to get it powder coated is there much to remove from the cover once it's off ? I know this is a lot of questions but if I am going to bugger something up just by making it look a bit tidier then it might not be worth it.
Discuss.
Regards in advance

from memory,i think 3 screws holding the windings and 1 holding a cable tidy, easy to remove, easy to re-fit just be carefull you dont pinch your fingers :eek if you paint it on the bike it wont look nowhere near as good

If you run your finger around where the cover mates to the engine there's two tabs that you can get your fingers behind to pull it off. If you have a rubber mallet you could give the cover a tap as you're pulling on it.
Hey Lez, what you up to?, are you putting on a polished one?

Hey Noggy. Yes, just to clarify i'm taking the generator and starter cover off to repaint and freshen them up a tad. Well, actually I think I will have them powder coated if I can get them both off ok as it would be a far more durable finish. I'll post pics when they are sorted in case anyone else is thinking of having theirs done

Cool lez, sounds good,
I got outbid on a polished engine cover on ebay but they did end up paying £40 for a so called bargain.
Powder coat would be interesting if it stands the heat.

yep....will handle the heat ok ....

Well I finally got the generator cover off tonight with a bit of swearing and brute force. My better half even ventured into the garage to assist :eek Sweet. The 3 allen head nuts were a nightmare to remove in order to remove the windings from the outer case but other than that it wasn't too bad. Will be dropping off with the powdercoater over the next few days
Thanks for the help so far folks.
