Pull-away snatchyness

Hello again, another quick thing that's bugging me is since I have had the bike it has been a bit of a bugger when pulling away. It used to drop the revs a lot but cleaning out the air box and putting in a new air filter (k&n) has sorted that. It also does this thing where it sort of snatches a bit, but I'm not sure if it's the clutch or what? I have adjusted the cable several times and removed completely to lube and it feels great except for when I pull away. It actually feels like it's something to do with the chain / sprockets or near the front sprocket cover where the clutch cable goes .They're fairly new though and adjusted correctly. Is there something I'm missing or is it just a characteristic of the bike? If not I would really like to fix it as each little problem I sort is making it better and better and I'm almost there now. Sounds like you're just describing the chain tensioning on acceleration?
If you're saying the chain is adjusted correctly then being more gentle and controlling the clutch more should eliminate that.

Has the clutch been replaced at any time?
Twice I've tried the heavier duty Kevlar lined plates and for road riding they're a bitch, proper snatchy when pulling off from a standstill!

Perhaps it is that, I'm not sure but it hasn't happened before on any of my other bikes or bikes i've ridden. I am gentle and smooth with the clutch and don't just dump it or whatever, it's a problem I've only encountered on this bike. If I give it more revs or hold the clutch for longer then it doesn't usually do it or do it as badly, but I don't really like to do that. It feels like it's all going smooth then all of a sudden something just dumps and the bike snatches a little which can be annoying. It's very hard to describe and I can't really do a video about it.

I'm not sure punkstig, I haven't replaced it though and I don't remember seeing any service notes about it. It feels fine when changing gear etc, it may just be me being over sensitive.

I would say you just arent riding the clutch enough on take off & it is something i struggle with at times as i dont like riding clutches although im told that it is more acceptable & normal on motorbikes.


Based on the very small number of bikes that ive ridden i'd say the fazer needs the clutch ridden allot more & hasĀ  a small biting point although that of course could just be my particular bike.


Something else ive found & i noticed someone else asking about it recently was the reach on the levers is quite far.if that is the case then could having the fingers more extended actually limit the ability of fine control whilst riding the clutch or getting the bite.just a theory but i'd like to try some smaller levers or adjust mine closer to see if it helps.

You're probably right noggy and yeah I don't like riding the clutch particularly it's not how I ride, of course at times like slow speed maneuvers it can come in handy but I personally don't like it. Well I guess its something that I will have to accept, I have tried getting used to it and it is one of those things that has always bugged me but the good far outweigh the bad so I'll just have to take it as one of those things, it's barely noticeable anyway.


As for reach I have quite big hands so thats not really the issue I don't think, although I would like to try out some short levers to see the difference too. Roadcraft nottingham, someone I watch alot on youtube, has them on a few bikes and when he's changing gear it looks super slick which they probably play a fair part in. The levers the guy put up the other week were surprisingly cheap too.


It actually still pulls pretty cleanly at like 1500-2000 rpm with the clutch out as well in 1st if you're very gentle with the throttle control so I usually just do that rather than ride the clutch and keep having to fart about with pulling away.

I know what you mean & i believe that with a carb'd bike you need to be gentle with the throttle if you arent pulling in the clutch,not sure of the ins & outs but i dont think the fuel injection crew have that characteristic.perhaps someone in the know will educate us.flooding the carbs or something im not sure.


Also it could be down to the carbs needing balanced.when i first got my bike it had just had a carb balance & it was silky smooth but im starting to notice a little rough low down running & more snatchyness.


Out of interest yamy can you hold quite smoothly in 6th gear at 30mph on a flat road???


When my carbs were in tune i could do this no problem but now it struggles a bit.
