Clutch isn't.

My clutch is being more of a clunge and refusing to do anything that it should do.

Last few weeks it's been really heavy, changing down has been an interesting experience and I've been forced to killswitch it at traffic lights as she wouldn't go into neutral.

After trying to adjust the cable 9one of Venhill's finest) I gave in and bought a cheap ass replacement from M&P.
Didn't make a blind bit of difference.
I then took off the actuator arm and re-aligned it, foc all.

Replacement EBC springs did a similar level of foc all.

Last but not least I replaced the friction plates, nada.

The only plate I couldn't swap out was the one that is behind the basket as I couldn't get the twatting bolt that holds the basket in place to shift.

I'm off out to have another play with the cable and see if I can get a bit more movement out of it, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what else may be wrong?

Not sure if the FZ1 has the same, mental expensive, clutch cable as my Gen1 but after the pattern cable from Wemoto broke after only a few hundred miles I bit the bullet and shelled out for the OE part and it made a huge difference.

Do you have a thou gen 1? If so, try looking at the end of the gearbox shaft where the clutch basket sits, there should be a cap in the end of the shaft to control where the oil goes.
On my old 98 R1, this came out and fell into the bottom of the clutch basket, and the oil 'poured' over the clutch plates causing drag so severe that at a standstill, the bike wouldn't stop with the clutch in and first gear engaged, it crept forwards quite a lot.
Engaging first was an absolute barsteward! It jumped forwards on engagement, and occasionally stalled. Might be worth a look to see if the cap is still there. Its only a push fit, and I just tapped mine back in place with a hammer and that solved it>

This is the piece in question, we had the same problem with an old R1, until we discover the cap in the clutch cover. You cannot buy the piece as it is part of the shaft and not supposed to fall out
Refitting like stevierst says solved the problem, curved side in.

Did you check the metal plates or the pressure plate for warping.

I don't know if both the gens use identical clutches but ifso the endplug is an easy check.

It's the cable - all the pattern ones are supplied by the same people in slit eye land.

They are shit, buy a proper one and stop wasting time and money!  :\
