Air filter oil??
#1
I've got an air filter for my fzs600 - it's a Green cotton one. Got it cheap and it's supposed to be just as good as the K&N (or at least better than the old stock one that's been in there for 2 years now). It's second hand but unused... the box looks like it's been knocking around someone's shed for ages.
Being a bit ignroant about these things - I've only just realised that I might need to oil it. Do I?
If so, what oil can I use? Do I have to buy the expensive stuff from either the Green Filter company or K&N? Or will something else do.....?
I've read that not oiling it will hurt my engine  :\
Thanks in advance

I think you only oil them after about 50k miles or somethin, certainly with k&n anyway, did it come outta the box dry or was it inside a polythene bag?

I would say if you need oil then go for the pricey stuff

I think there was an old story about k&n filters that dust has a certain charge & the k&n has the opposite charge so it repels the dust so if that story is true then the oil must have a specific charge which you couldnt guarantee with a y old oil.

Not sure what charge i am at the moment but cant wait for it to change as i keep getting a shock every time i touch a cars bodywork :lol ,i need to oil myself up :rolleyes

Thanks. It's been unwrapped from its polythene bag and I don't know for how long so will probably get the cleaner and oil and follow what it says on the website.

Might as well give it a good clean and oil if you're worried about it. Not going to hurt.  8)

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Just fyi, new air filter cleaned, spray oiled, installed. Old stock one was a sorry state. Has made her start better and run a lot smoother. Also notice better mpg! Job's a good'n. Thanks all
