I found a CAT
#1
Well the bike had a few bolt on mods when i got it, one was the Blue flame slip on so i wondered if the cat was still in there.....

[Image: fz1cat.jpg]

And yes it was,

supposedly causing too much back pressure at higher revs, so======

now i let the cat out !!!! :lol

Also the clamp bolt was rusted solid so the bolt broke, now drilled out and a new coppergreased bolt in its place.

On the way is a 16 tooth front sprocket and a PC3  so boring autumn nights are more fun in the garage.

Yes spot on WD40 , was used mostly to try to free up clamp bolt, never worked,but now fixed,

wd40 is brill(away from brakes) to clean and protect paint,moving parts and cleancrap off. seeing as its not often i am under there i gave it some!!!!

Today i fitted the power commander and hooked up the laptop,

downloaded the installed map from the previous owner,he had the same bike ,i have left that map in for the meantime,to see what he was using.

The map reads that its suits slip on exaust and aftermarket airfilter,european models, with o2 sensor disconnected,

So i have followed the o2 wire up under the tank and found a connector and duly disconnected it.

Anyone with a FZ1 disconnected the o2 sensor, ??  there are plug in devices for the socket but the dynojet web site gives maps for both so i guess it will work disconnected.

Now the 16 tooth front sprocket has arrived,, wow how big is the retaining nut???

Hi Billy
Be interesting to see how she runs.
I know it a different bike but was going to get one those O2 sensor eliminators for my gixxer thou as I have a decat pipe and arrow cans and it don't run as well as I  would like until higher revs. In fact if I remove the baffles the revs rise and fall by themselves when at tickover. Maybe a remap is needed?
Hope you pleased with the results

Yes Jacko, i have finished the 16 tooth fitting,

so now just to try it,, 37mm nut retaining the front cog,,borrowed a 38mm from my mates garage,and i had somehow the 32 mm for the rear wheel in my tool kit.

Yes it seems if you alter the breathing,in and out then you have to get a PC3 or 5 to adjust the fuelling or there is the o2 setup on the ecu.

Ideally you have to get it dynoed for the correct map but if you are not racing then there are plenty of maps written for your mods ready and very easily moved from your laptop to the power commander on the bike.

Well the mods that have been carried out on the FZ1 are

Cosmetic=tail tidy

1=aftermarket blue flame slip on.
2=air box intake opened up.
3=secondary flies removed,trimmed and replaced.
4=ais blocked

Tested for a couple of months,worked well,sounds nice but maintained a horrible flat spot at 2800 revs , after that goes like hell.

5=removed Cat from exaust
6=disconnected co sensor
7=fitted second hand PC3 with last users map already on it.
8=fitted a 16 tooth front sprocket.

Today ,roads wet but some sun so i opted for a test ride.

Twenty miles later i had the biggest grin on my face, the result is fantastic,so responsive in top gear at any speed, the flat spot has dissapeared,
i slowed down to 15 mph loads of times to test , twist and go,found some dry straights to test the revs through the gears, big smiles,,wayhey :lol

I almost forgot it was wet underneath, went towards a police car facing me in a layby,oops. looked down at speedo 98mph and slowing.

The response all over the rev range was good,i dont know what error code was on the speedo but once i saw 146  :o

Most of this was done odd nights in the garage,overalls and coat on, just stops me going to sleep on the couch.out there until 11.0pm some nights.

But very very worth it.
