side stand
#1
question.

i have a 98 (T reg) fazer 600, the side stand on that has to be lifted up with the foot before pulling away. now, my dad has a W reg fazer 600 & as soon as you lift the bike up the side stand whips up by itself! when you put it down you have to keep your foot on it. bit of a f*cker to remember when you forget!

is it meant to do that?  oh forgot to mention, his also has a clock & hazard light button where as mine dont. ( im guessing mines one of the first gen1's of the fazer 600 world)

Not sure but mine is a 2003 and I have to kick up the side stand.Would I thought thu all should be like that, maybe his spring is to tight? Has the spring been replaced with one that's to small?

mine is a 2002 and requires pushing up with my foot.
my guess is the oval bracket that the spring attaches to is around the wrong way.
i have tried to include a link to a parts diagram . you are looking for part 4 or 7

mine stays down till it's touched then it springs up by itself (fnarr, fnarr etc) it started to stiffen up a bit when the bracket got dirty (oooh matron), maybe it just needs a clean.
thou shalt not kick

Clean and grease them they will all be fine. I spray wd 40 then after thats dried a light spray of chain lube once a month keeps mine very happy. Do this while moving  the side stand around.                                      ps. put ya bike on the main stand first, it hurts less that way. :lol

i believe there are some countries where it is a legal requirement for the side stands to auto retract

Once down it should stay down until its kicked up which the spring is there to pull all the way up.
