Fantastic thread, well done Paul, delighted it made the National press too!
Over the last 12 years I have had a 1999 R6 covered 44,000 miles in 3 years
2003 R1 covered 44,000 in 4 years then swapped it for another
2003 R1 which has covered 55,000 in 4 years and then had an easy time as I bought
2004 Fazer 1000 Cat D written off from a friend and covered 16,000 on that before selling it on Flea Bay, but it mean't I could keep the R1 which I have now given to my son, still going as strong as ever.
Briefly (3 months) had a Gen2 Fazer 1000 which did not match up to the Gen 1, but managed to write it off, which brings me to the Fazer 8 which is just run in and I am beginning to bond with.
As the MCN article highlighted, the key is regular servicing, all my bikes had full service records and only swapped first R1 as looking long term at it's value and it's replacement, which we still have, coming along at an opportune moment. The dealer placed it right by the door, so I practically fell over it when returning to collect my first R1 after a service. So we did a deal.
Never managed to trade in high mileage bikes apart from this one, either sold to friends who knew the bike or Flea Bay, or kept them!
Tend to do the same with my cars, but that is another story! lol
