Play in Rear Suspension

Just MOT'd today.....Pass with no advisories...

But I watched the guy test the bike and he did comment on some play in the rear suspension. I recall a thread on the old site about re-torquing the suspension linkages on the sidestand to cure this.
I wonder if putting on the R6 shock and torquing on the centre stand (which I did a month or so ago) could be the difference as no play was noted last year at the MOT.

I believe there is always some play in the back, 1 or 2 mm, I found on mine that I just needed to retorque the swingarm pivot but on the ground not on the stand.

there is play built in so to speak and always been commented on is mot issues
not come across a fail for it as yet so just forget it its part of yamaha design lol

So are you saying you wouldn't try to re-torque on the sidestand to try and take out the play?

As above, they all do it. Some have gone so far as to replace all the bearings and bushes but have still been left with more or less the same amount of play as they started with. Probably no harm in re-torquing the bolts if you want, but I doubt you'd notice any difference when riding.

On a side note I went to a different place for my MOT last year and they picked this up and put it on the MOT as an advisory, whereas my usual garage never did. I will be taking it back to my usual garage this year as I understand that insurance companies can take MOT advisories into account when assesing a claim.
