Yes, I did, when my bike was stuttering too. Try to find a cheap one at ebay, it is common part used in many bikes. I bought a Kawasaki one at a little workshop, it is identical.

thanks motorbreath, will look on ebay later, now the bikes in bits again i will remove the filter and see if its blocked,i realy want to find the cause of the stutter rather than replace parts `willy nilly`....its just the way i am,probably my age and having to much time on my hands    :rollin

The filter is a possibility but it would have to be very dirty and would suggest other issues like contaminated fuel or corrosion in the fuel tank.  Easily checked this just bypass it, if all's well then the filter is indeed the issue also check the petcock tube gauze and inspect the inside of the tank for crap.  Along the same lines it's also possible the pump is failing that said from my experience pumps on Fazers either work or they don't but anything is possible.

i drained the tank yesturday and removed the fuel guage for inspection...all looked bright and shiney,i dont think the fuel filter will be blocked its just that its been on there since the bike was new,14yrs old now with nearly 40,000 miles on the clock so must be due renewal.....agree with you on the pump...think i need to do one thing at a time now to pin point the problem,90% sure its a fuel problem......thanks for your comments, most helpful

You are welcome.
The fuel filter was the first thing I tried to fix my bike and it worked. You do not wait until the bike fails for changing the air or oil filters, do you?  You have nothing to lose, they are pretty cheap and it has to be changed sooner or later.

Good luck!

I changed mine and very easy. There is a work shop manual on the forum somewhere that I think it's in. I posted some filters from eBay on this thread.
