The ones in my bike have a lot more of turns than this from the picture, both at the hard and the soft zones. Sorry I haven't got pictures of them. My bike is from 1999. Did Yamaha change springs in 2002? Or are my springs from another brand? The total length is the same as manual says.

At least the long spacer in my bike was changed by the previous owner to increase preload (too much, and poorly made). I put a shorter spacer and a 2002 preload adjuster.

Could anybody who has the OEM springs laying around compare them?

Thanks a lot

Yes the free length of a 99 is longer by 6.2 they changed in 2000 to accommodate the preload adjustment.
99 model springs should be 323mm free length service limit 319mm after 2000 this was reduced to 316.8mm, bizarrely the service limit is the same at 319mm hmm obviously stretches it's self. :rollin :rollin :rollin

Providing they are the same length and you're happy with the ride I would worry too much.

That's weird :eek

Yamaha also forgot to include the disc-shaped washers in the drawings of the first supplementary service manual, so the adjuster wouldn't work. They also were wrong converting Newtons to Kilos in the 1998 manual, so this difference in length could be another mistake...

I have also found this at the french forum. It looks like mine. I think it is the stock one. Haynes also points out that the 98-99 springs were longer (but with 309mm of service limit for 00-03). The catalogue code is slightly different. Noting the cheap work the previous owner did with the preload spacer I assume he kept the original 99 springs.
