Another Email scam
#1
You may know about this one but a friend of mine just phoned me as he was concerned about an email from an old school friend now living in Australia.......

Hi,

How are you doing today? Am really sorry to bother you with this email but i just want you to know what i am passing through. Am presently in United Kingdom for a Seminar, but unfortunately for me i lost my wallet in a taxi where my money and other valuable things were kept.I have gone to the CAB unit to search for it but I was unlucky and they said they can do noting about what has happened to me right now and I made a report to the police about the incident, i want you to assist me with a loan of £1,800 or whatever you can afford urgently to sort-out my hotel bills and get myself back home. I promise to pay you back as soon as i returned, Kindly let me know if you can assist so that i can send you the details for you to send the money to me in Manchester.

Thanks and God bless

A quick search on Google shows it is yet another scam. Are they getting smarter?

friend had one of these while her daughter was on a gap year, but it came through as if from the hospital where they were taken "after injuries sustained in a struggle from robbery" - the money was to be wired immediately to  etc etc - really put the wind up her, and then she thought hang on, 6 of them, enough mobile phones, facebook, etc etc, and called her daughter

The evolution of the Nigerian 419 scam  :eek  I was sitting next to a guy on a flight to Lagos once - greek, with canadian citizenship.  We got talking and he told me he was on a confidential visit to a nigerian ministry where he was going to earn a packet, transferring money.  He showed me the Rolex he was asked to bring as a sign of good faith!  And a bottle of twenty year old scotch!
I told him he was being scammed, and he was very scared as he was being met at the airport.  I took him through immigration and customs, and dropped him at a different hotel, and arranged with the Canadians to pick him up the next morning and get him the hell out.
