Finding time to ride and where

I struggle to find time to ride and then also if I did have time its a pain to get out anywhere useful.

How do you all find the time to ride and where do you go?

That's a good question Sam. Like many I'm a commuter so I'm out most of the week. When the weather's better I sometimes enjoy a good hoon on a Sunday morning if I've not drunk too much beer the night before  :evil

My ride is my commute. I have no other time to myself so I make damn sure I ride my bike to work.

When I retired and moved to Spain I was never off the bike but only in the cooler months , June , July & August it mostly stayed in the garage unless I went out very early morning or late afternoon. I refused to become a shorts and tee shirt biker = with all the idiot tourists on the roads bugger that.
Now I live in SW France the bike may get a run out twice a month if that, winter here is bloody colder than the UK + the roads are shite.
Hope to be heading off in just over a week for a trip back down to my old stomping ground in Spain.

Know what you mean fella. I'm a 365 rider with a daily 100 mile commute to London and back - it's hard in the winter to find the fun/buzz factor of a weekend ride out.

Me I can only ride my bike when my wife gives me permission. Like Fu-k.
I'm retarded no retired so I get to ride most days in the summer when the weather permits, and some days at this time of year again needs to be a nice dry day as I don't want my baby to get wet or grubby.

I sometimes ride with a mate he has a 1200 Harley low rider jobby thing, thing is the right word, piece of shite is another word, but he loves it, trouble is it's a job to get the FZS into 5th when riding with my mate 'Wildplum' he likeis to sit at 70-75 all the time. I rib him and say that is probably all it will do.
I told him if he wants it to perform better and have more power he should buy a smaller plough for it :lol .
But to be honest I enjoy riding by myself, I get to choose where and when I go plus I set my own pace. Gentle ride if I want or tear arse off down the coast. Short runs this time of year usually mean a trip to Loomies cafe at West Meon Hut in Hampshire for nice hot mug of tea and a plate of Cheasey Bacon Chips, delicious makes me fart the Mrs is not amused. :rolleyes

You must have some A1 mechanicing skills there Frosties- I struggle at times to keep the bike roadworthy through winter and I only average about 120-150 miles a week. Hats off to you fella for coping with such a long comute in all weathers.

You probably ride more than I do, I have had the bike 16 years and its now 19 years old and done 19k miles - do them maths. (it 4k on it when I brought it )
I am lucky in that I do not need it for commute so no ride there and although I ride all year round
I only ride when its dry and looks like it will stay that way when I am out.
Then what has to happen is that a dry day has to coincide with one that I am not working
then when I don't have to pick a member for the family up or take to somewhere,
then when the grass don't need cutting
or some part of Sharp hall repairing or decorating 
So it doesn't leave much time for riding but some times I just have to drop everything and go (but still has to be dry)
I never go far -100 miles in one go max mostly up to 50 miles but I make sure they are 50 miles of twisties- apart from short sections of straight to get to the twisties and also stay off the boring motorway mostly.
Its kept in an integral garage away from the elements and mostly I am content that it is there for me when I want it.

That 100 mile commute is amazing. I try and commute 2x week, 34mile RT but to be honest its awful. Its basically filtering all the way into London and I dont particularly enjoy it.


I keep thinking I will have a quick dash somewhere, but finding the time and ideal day is next to impossible with 2 young kids and a whole lot of grass cutting!

As far as I know the nearest brewery to me is the Heineken factory in Amsterdam ?? or maybe one of the cider places down in Cornwall?  Either way I can't find one locally.

As for getting out and riding, I'm in the same boat as most of you in the sense I ride it to work and back but rarely anywhere else. I try and get out for pleasure rides as often as I can but that usually equates to once a month a nd never more than 80mile or so trips ?
I think it's more down to how much passion you have left to get out there and ride for the sake of it. I mean I've never gone and got in the car just to go for a drive but I often leave for work an hour early just to trawl the country try roads before I get there.

It also depends where you are as to how much inspiration you have to get out there. I live at the end of a motorway (m180) with nothing but the sea to the north and west and 1 route south (A46) so new riding options are very limited. I do envy some of you guys that live near the valleys of Wales of on the edge of the lake district etc etc
I've been riding round my area for 4 years now and You can only ride the same routes so many times before boredom sets in then you either give up or keep trying to go faster and neither of them options end well haha

If the challenge has not been completed by the middle of next week I'm up for it, can't do it in the next couple days as I am a voluntary driver for a charity and am busy for the rest of this week (of out in a couple of hours time on a hospital run) and weather looks shite for the W/End.
I have another hosp run Monday and another on Weds do it so looks like Tuesday is the best day for A BREWERY run or should that be crawl. :thumbup
If it's not done I will cover it.

[/quote] Admit it can be a ball ache but it's better than the train or car and being self employed saves a £300 weekly outlay compared to a car (fuel, congestion charge, parking).

Well the idea is to get out on the bike and go for a ride --------- so No.
But we would still like to see pictures of your brew, I tried it years ago but found it a ball ache doing all the bottle and equipment sterilising, do you still have to do all that maybe I was a bit OCD about it but it still never helped.
