Hi all i am a complete beginer so sorry if this is a silly question but discovered two holes on the exhaust downpipes today just wondering what the best and cheapest options are? Also when looking for replacement downpipes on ebay what models by year can i use on my 2001 model? (Seen some nice shiny ones for a 2004 model at a good price)

hamish,2004 pipes won't fit you need 1998-2003 ones,most recommend Motad downpipes as do I, give them a ring for best price,you can use your original end can or get a nice new one.
The exhaust studs & nuts need to been sprayed with Plusgas for a week or more before carefully trying to remove nuts hopefully all will come off nicely,you need to fit 4 new exhaust gaskets,apply some copper grease to studs & evenly torque nuts to 10NM. Goodluck.

2004 is most likely FZ6 and will not fit. Your bike is FZS 600.
Delkevic are doing good quality pipes. Most likely I will by ones soon too. £179 is good price too given the fact you buy directly from manufacturer with all warranty. I doubt ebay sellers will give you any warranty.
I had a lot of trouble persuading the Delkevics to fit, others on here have had the same issue.
Motad would be my choice, but there's a huge variation in pricing, ringing them up and telling them you saw a set at £150 on ebay seems to be the best method.
I also had a set of SandyBikeSpares: the missing link pipes didn't upset the mixture too much, but the header clamps are made from rather fragile steel, they develop cracks and drop off.
Delkevic are probably one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.
I had major difficulty in trying to get their pipes to fit, contacted them and they sent a replacement which were actually worse than the first set.
Contacted them again and the manager would not speak directly to me at any stage, he would only deal with me through the receptionist.
I took the pipes to a fabricator whom I know well and his thoughts were the same as mine there jig must be misalligned. the pipes were so badly out of line I would have broken the header bolts if I attempted to tighten them enough to seal. :eek
If the pipes fitted at the headers the mounting bracket at the rear was an inch out and would foul the centre stand mounting on the frame.
After numerous toing and froing and the manage still refusing to deal directly with me, I even sent him photographs of the problem and he was still not cooperating and even went so far as to suggest, I didn't know how to fit them :eek This was all via email and calls via the receptionist who was getting embarrassed as this stage. Finnaly I returned the pipes and told him via the receptionist that it would be more in his line to listen to customers and check out his obviously misaligned jig instead of insulting them.
I have fitted pipes to all sorts of bikes and cars over the years and the cheek of this idiot who firstly refused to speak to me and then tried insulting me. I had fitted Delkevic pipes to fazers without problem previously but not with about 3 years.
The receptionist later emailed me apologising and said he did not deal with allthe complaints to well :lol
Oh yes nearly forgot I bought a set of Motads and they fitted without any issue
By the sounds of it there's a couple of you looking for new downpipes- I'd suggest someone phones Motad ask what discounted price you can have say 3-5 sets of downpipes and go from there as obviously they'd be happier knowing they're making several of them in one go
Someone did say that they had to sleeve I think they may have been Motads but loads of us have them fitted & haven't needed to, me included & to be honest it's not required. [img alt=Smile]http://foc-u.co.uk/Smileys/efocicon/smile.gif[/img]
Cheers guys, i think im going to get some putty and go for the temp fix atm as the two holes i have are quite small. comapred to pictures i have seen online my downpipes arnt no where near as rusty, if however people want to see if we can get a discount on the motads by buying in bulk, please let me know as it will be good to have them ready and save a bit of dosh, i do need to wait untill i get the cash together though. Hope the temp fix will last the summer? Again thanks for all the advice

Finished it off today, 1st out for a 10mile spin to get the filler fully hardened and then some masking off and a spray with Rust-oleums stove and bbq paint. It took so long to mask off that it would of been quicker to take it off but as I have never taken it off I have no time for "unknowns" as I plan to get the MOT on Monday. (my stud nuts are good as I have had them off and copper greased)
Just need to take it for another spin tomorrow to bake on the paint
I usually use Granviles engine paint but have found that it can flake off, somewhere on this forum a member recommenced the Rust-oleum so I thought I would give it a go.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
