Hi,
I have had my Fazer thou for a couple of months now, I think it is the best all round bike I have owned and i have had a few bikes over 20 years!
It's been a while since I have had a 4 cylinder bike or a bike with carbs so I am intrigued by all the set up advice available online, particularly since mine has a slight issue at start up which doesn't seem to fit into most of the forum chat I have read.
My bike doesn't need any choke, I know this is probably running rich but in the last couple of weeks it has started idling quite poorly immediately after start up, chugging and bogging down for a minute or so before it clears with a few careful and gentle throttle blips.
I am pretty sure the carbs are due a good clean out and that should solve the crap idling but I am not sure why I dont need the choke.
I have read quite a lot about carb rejetting which sounds interesting but I want to get to the bottom of the basic issues.
I have read that Yamaha recommend the mixture screw adjustment is 2 full turns out from fully in, but I have also read that it should be 4 1/2 turns out, does this recommendation apply to standard carb jetting or only for modified carbs, I am not sure??
My plan is to ride it until the roads are salted and shite and then pull the carbs off, give them a good clean and set them up so I know they are as they should be for standard jetting.
Any advice on the points I have mentioned would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance!
Chris
