Brakes upgrading?
#1
Hi guys, whats the best way to improve braking (front) on Gen 2 Fazer FZ1 ?
They appear to be same setup as R1 but obviously are not as they do not perform the same at all.
Looking at the easy options first - pads. Anyone have experience with EBC sintered or Brembo or other ?
Or maybe it has to be an upgrade master cylinder to get results
many thanks in advance

The front brakes on my FZ1S are completely standard and are super sensitive and powerful, couldn't imagine needing anything better (on the road). What pads do you have fitted? Mine is still on the original yamaha pads which seem to be the best option for this bike but a bit pricey.

You need better brakes on a gen 2 !?!?!?

Mine were awesome, and hauled the bike up very, very well. I had bendix MF pads, but the rest was standard.
May I suggest overhauling your calipers, as a piston may well be stuck.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Or pads glazed? Find an empty road where you can do some hard braking, see if it improves?

Thanks guys, ok sounds like it needs maintenance then, rather than upgrade!
I just bought it so no idea what pads fitted. I think he sprayed the whole bike with silicone so thats not good if it gets on discs then soaks into pads!

I'm gonna try EBC sintered as they were good on my R1 and reasonably priced too.
Maybe could do with a bleed as well, as a bit spongy.

Just like to add, I know you've used sintered pads before but I fitted a set to my Gen 2 about two or three years ago and couldn't believe the amount of brake dust. It seemed as though I was forever cleaning brake dust off the wheels. I haven't had that problem since I got rid of the sintered pads. As has already been said, standard brakes are awesome and the only mod I have made to mine is braided hoses.
I could change my opinion, but then we'd both be wrong.

Thanks Grayo, good point. Does anyone know an equivalent to the OEM pad with same or similar spec?
I dont fancy paying Yamaha prices, and anyway Yamaha dont actually make pads, they just buy them in and double the price
thanks in advance
