Hi peeps new here, just bought a Gen1 1000 in blue (is that the fast colour?) on a 56 plate, bike is in near mint condition, it only has 8500miles on the clock :rolleyes looking forward to putting plenty more miles on this summer,
I don't collect the bike til Sunday Cant wait 8)
Let's hope it proves to be more reliable than my Triumph sprint

great choice man ,super quick torquey bike , enjoy the power ,,,,top tip replace the rear shock ,drop the front ten mill and get it ivanized ,,thatll do for a start :lol

Welcome, you bought the slowest colour, but it will give you time to get used to it before you move on to the fastest colour [glow=red,2,300] RED[/glow] :lol
The good news is that they are extremely reliable
I can concur that Blue is slowest & Red is fastest.......im the 2nd Red owner to welcome you in already which proves the point.
Unfazed is right....blue is the most reliable.

Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

My last three bikes have been Red & were indeed all very fast, never had a Blue one before
I guess I'll just have to get used to being slow :lol
Blue owners do not find the need to boast,show off or write dribble.
We sit sipping coffee (as we got here ages ago) waiting for the red ones to catch up,,it's nice to know you own a blue one :b

The blue ones are slowest, the silver ones are the most reliable. The red ones either catch fire at the hands of our local arsonist, or are made super shiny and rarely ridden. Foc knows what the yellow ones do. Hard to tell as these are all seen in the wing mirrors of the fastest bike: the black ones.

Another vote for the Red ones being fastest.
Oh .......... and the Silver ones are the fastest 600's.
Well got the bike home yesterday, 100 miles of wind, rain & roads covered in salt & all kinds of other shite,
enjoyed the ride though, what a fantastic engine! smooth & well mannered until you give it the beans then :eek
Loving it so far I think we are going to get on well

What a lovely looking Gen 1 & low miles to boot!
Makes me yearn for my old "Big Red".
Now is it standard or "Ivanised" ?
These pristine Gen 1s must be one of the best bargains to be had at present.
If it was mine I would be looking at replacing brake hoses (if yours are originals which they appear to be in pics) with braided,giving the brake system a full overhaul-new seals/fluid-if no evidence from previous service history.
Check condition of cooling system-hoses/rad/jubilee clips and check all your electrical connectors for integrity/freedom from corrosion.
Also action of F & R suspension.
Having done all this then get out and enjoy that fantastic motor :lol
Thanks for that, she really is in excellent condition for her age, apart from the end can she is completely unmolested not a hint of corrosion anywhere. Brake fluid seems to have been changed (nice & clear) will drop coolant when I change oil and inspect hoses ect
will look at suspension & brake lines next year, just gonna ride it this year
