Yeh there was a bit of trust involved there. No safety wires other than the winch itself. Pretty cool.
Shame about the old Defenders going out of production......my work has like a mini landing craft boat that is purpose designed for a small defender to drive up its ramp and be transported on deck....they're ordering a brand new one now while they still can.

Claerwen Dam, yep in the Ellan valley I highly recommend anyone to take a trip to Ellan valley, slow riding but a nice relaxing bit of scenery. Top gear have filmed up there before, i think Nick seen them blasting along in some sports car on one of the nearby roads.

Wow a landrover can climb a dam wall as long as it's fitted with a swinging engine in the back and a larger winch at the front. Just a shame it didn't make it over the top. We may have then seen the landrover swimming in the lake but only after Hammond had blown up and fitted his armbands :rolleyes

He did look a little worried.
The swinging engine was only because the battery would go flat too quickly pulling the weight up the hill so needed to be kept charged effectively. TBH, given the amount of faith put into one cable with a clutch to stop it unwinding, I am surprised the production company allowed it to go ahead. The insurance bill for that shoot must have been massive.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

Enjoyed lunch at a visitor centre . Tells you all about the dam construction as well. Was there not something about when they were developing the Boucing bomb during the war that they used that area to test the launching mechanism? Anyway anyone who has never been around that part of the country you do not know what you are missing.
