Oxford Optimiser test
#1
I have an old Oxford Optimiser that has worked perfectly for years, however the traffic light system which indicates the state of the battery has stopped working, the power light is still on....how can I tell if it's still working ? I have a multi tester but little idea how to use it.
Can anyone advise please ?

Man that is spooky.
I dug mine out last night as the WR battery is dead and I got the same, just the green power light.

I put a meter across the terminals as it was attached to the battery and there's just a flicker of voltage showing.

So is it working or not?

I have an Optimate charger and that needs a load on it to operate properly I should think the optimiser is the same, put a meter across the connectors with no load on it and no voltage is being put out by the charger. Connect the charger to the battery, set your multimeter to Volts DC then put it across the battery terminals, should show around 13/14 volts.

I thought it should show at least 12v across the battery terminals.
I'll have to try and connect up the MT battery and see what happens I suppose!

Connected it to a good battery and it works just fine so the old battery must be that shagged it wont even accept a charge!.
Mine an Optimate3 by the way.
