Got a Samsung LCD that blows the internal fuse with a pop!

Is it worth trying to get it repaired?

It's a 32inch around 3 or 4 years old.

It depends what's causing the fuse to blow, and how much you paid for it (or indeed, the cost to replace it).

Does the fuse go immediately on power-up, or something that happens after?

.....we had a panasonic lcd that did the same?...turned out it was the starter  switch diode " whatever that is?...had someone come out who gave free estimates!...collected and returned within 3 days £60...been fine since?...my daughter had it off us over 3yrs ago....

Quite often these units have resetting fuses so it would be worth seeing if, after 10 minutes it starts working again.  Beyond that you can take the back off and have a look for anything that looks blackened or gooey or fuselike (and whack a multimeter across it) and just solder in a replacement.

As for repair or replace, to a large degree it depends on your ethos: reuse/recycle or off to landfill/tip or Sometimes you can flog them on ebay as some people have a hobby of repairing things

Last point to ask is why it blew.  I would always advise running important equipment through a surge protected socket.

I had a similar problem with my Toshiba. It cost me £5 for a replacement chip and has been fine (2.5 years) since
Google the model number for known issues n spares.
LCD TV's nearly always develop problems with what's known as the soft start circuits

Had the back off and there's a 4A fuse that pops as soon as the power is plugged in, nothing obviously burnt.

Dilemma is that it's in my sons room and was a xmas present when new. He only comes "home" once a fortnight so I really don't want to rush out to buy a new one but don't object to spending a few quid on a repair.

Replace it with a screw (or a 13A fuse), take the TV outside and plug it back in. You should see what the problem is then. Make sure there is at least a 13A fuse in the plug first.

never,never,never replace a fuse with a screw...this is very,very,very dangerous and could cause bodily harm...i cant believe youe suggesting this BBROWN1664,shame on you....a fuse of the correct size must be fitted at all times............

















if it keeps blowing wrap it in tin foil....works every time  :rollin :rollin :rollin

In the old workshop where I used to make sheds we would regularly pop the fuses in plugs. We found that the number 4 pozi drive screw bjts that came free with every box of screws fitted into the fuseholders perfectly. Never popped one of those.  :rolleyes
