Gen 1 headlights

I have tried a search but , not great results as I got  lots but nearly all for either hid or for 600's

I need to replace mine and im just wondering what everyone is currently recomending
I dont much fancy doing a HID converstion !

Reflector based headlights don't convert well to HIDS, there is too much light scatter which is an MOT failour among other things. But there is another option which is LED based driving lights. I Am picking up a set for my Gen 1 tomoz and in the mean time here is a shot of these lights on my Bandit 600. I'm going to try and see if I can mount them in the same location on the fazer.

I thought from your post you were looking to upgrade. With regard to the stand fitment type, you only have 1 option 'Ring 120% H4 bulbs' which are far better then the stock bulbs. It will be interesting to see how they measure up the cree LED lights.

I put a set of 'nightbreaker' bulbs in my gen 2, and they almost doubled the light they put on the road.
HID are good, but expensive!

They did used to be but relatively speaking, not any more, you can buy a H4 hi/lo hid kit for £55 with a 2yr warranty (that's one year longer than a normal bulb) which is only £25-35 more than pair of branded H4 bulbs.

The new kids on the block are the LED aux/spot lights(as shown above) and atm there is only one company importing them (bikeviz) when more Co's. appear on the market the price will drop.

In truth almost anything is an improvement over standard. Just before xmas I was in TK-Max and spotted some Unipart xenon bulbs. the grand sum of £3.99, Much brighter than standard and cheap as chips.
If 1 of them blows in a year not really bothered at that price  :lol

Don't fit any of the higher wattage lamps, stick to 60/55w lamps.

Night brreakers, vision plus, any of those will give you an improvement over standard and will cost you about £25.

A cheap and nasty HID kit will also cost you about £25. But I can promise you that if you try one, you will never willingly use ordinary bulbs again, the difference is that big!
 
Upgrading to HIDs was probably the single best safety improvement I have ever made on any bike. If you are worried about MOT failures, don't be. Just make sure you get the plug in kit that leaves the original connectors in place, so that when MOT time comes around, you can take out the HID bulbs and put your old H4's back in.

You want the 6k H4-3 kit which will cost about £37. (I bought mine last year from Hong Kong and they cost £25.65. It is a car kit but that just means one set of cables will be longer then you need. If you like the results, you can invest in a high quality (and higher cost) bike specific kit when you have the time and the money. If you don't like it you can sell it on and get most of your money back.
