2nd gear problem

Finding it hard to come from 1 st gear in to 2 nd gear with out it selecting neutral then having the horrible gear grinding noise then CLUNK in to second.


This only happens when your in high revs?

IMHO you shouldnt be doing high revs when changing from 1st to 2nd.
I think what the consensus on changing gears is - lightly push the gear lever up, reduce revs + clutch + change gear + release clutch + foot goes back to normal position.

Ah I see well atleast I know now, I've got a lot off learning to do on these big bikes.

Ye, best to have a bit of pressure on the gear lever just before you actually change gear.

I second the opinion that high revs should be left for higher gears and not 1st to 2nd. If nothing else then it's just machine sympathy to get into second before accelerating hard/reving higher. Not everyone will agree I'm sure.

OR, adjust the clutch cable to the right spec. and you 'may' find things improve markedly!

Remove the front sprocket cover and clean out all the accumulated road crude and old chain lube from the clutch push mechanism, If no improvement then adjust the clutch.

I would also suggest adjusting the actual gear selector (the bit your foot moves). I found that I occasionally missed the 1st to 2nd change as my foot didn't come up quite high enough, I've adjusted this so that the selector is now further down and I don't remember the last time I missed the change...

Had one issue of the bike refusing to go down, but that was from 2nd to 1st and particularly high revs and I didn't realise I was in 2nd Tongue Bit of a muppet moment haha
