Hi guys, Im having a issue with a wierd clunk noise, ive had this problem before with a suzuki rf600r and that was 10 times worse than this.
My bike is a 2000 fzs600 with 24k and the noise has only just come on with in the last 100 miles and is there when the engine is hot or cold, my bike has also had a service in november last year inc plugs oil filter chain sprockets carb balance tyres and all new cables.
1st off my every this is adjusted within spec, ive had my bike on the center stand and held the clutch in with it in gear and revved it and there is no clutch drag at all , which to me is good.
what I am experiencing is when im rolling at any speed in any gear and i blip the throttle i get a clunk as if im experiencing clutch drag, it doesent do it in neutral or with clutch stationary .
im lost for ideas now .thanks in advance

hey good video yeah just sounds like that but i have never done it this way. What is it why should it just come on all of a sudden and can it be fixed in this early stage because that rf600 i had was at its worst and did affect gear change on it
but my fazer has perfectly good and very smooth changes

Lets just hope that there is a Yamaha fazer guru on here, who will point us in the right direction
Before any one asks my cush drive is fine
Its as almost as if its cluch drag but it cant be its feels like some kind of freeplay or a force pushing
alex when this happenes can you feel it through your foot pegs
If it aint broke , keep messing till it is
It does seem like clutch drag, as it happens on the center stand with the clutch in, but in gear.
I can feel it through the footpegs, yes.
I am getting a new clutch cable soon so will see if that helps things as well.
Alex i had a new clutch cable on tuesday and its no different, mine doesnt spin at all on the centerstand so mine cant be drag lol
if yours only moves a little bit it is ok because you have to allow for tolerences within the engine

When looking at the front sprocket side, in gear, there is about 75% or nearly a tooths worth of movement back and forth. Tightening up the chain slack, has helped a bit but not hugely.
like i say mate a little bit of movement is natural , ahhhh i wish i new what it was its frustrating me now lol
ive found post about this on other forums but the post never gets finished .......maybe its a secret for this fix

Check the front sprocket - there was an issue with a lot of them where the nut came off.
Its unusual not to get any drag on the clutch due to the fact that they are immersed in oil.
Sounds like a bit of chain slap. With my FZS600 if the chain adjustment wasn't at about 35mm slack at the centre point when on the main stand it made a lot of noise when changing gear. This could be the same.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again
im pretty sure that the clutch and chain are in spec
i will check the spocket nut but cant see this being it as it a forward and backward movement
any other this i could check

As daft as it sounds ....engine bolts ...had an old vixen bike once ... chinese monkey metak but was fun ... had clunking sound n found the engine bolts were a little loose ...
tiy just know its going to be somethging stupidly simple :rolleyes
Working on this bit :OP
hi rebuilt,
its nothing like that my life isnt that simple lol
it feels like something is trying to engage feels the same as clutch drag but i can assure you that it isnt
ive been doing some research and found something that almost describes it " output shaft wear" aka free play
but it cant be because i have no clutch drag lol
my money is on freeplay some where
any more ideas thank you
