Brake caliper anti-tamper bolts?
#1
Hi all!
I had the front calipers on my '99 Fazer stolen last night, I've been out today and grabbed another pair from a breakers but I'm concerned that they'll get pinched again. Does anyone here use any kind of anti-tamper bolts on their Fazers? And if so can you recommend me some? (Cheapish please, I'm a student!)

Cheers guys,
Ollie

The tag foccer is too good for them. Cheese wire, testicles and hung from the nearest lamppost, is what they need!

Keep an eye on ebay, in case some turn up near you - might be yours!

Seems a bit of a specific item to steal, somebody obviously can't afford 2nd hand one's or they're just a thieving shitbag by nature!

Either they are flat broke or someone pinched them for drug money. You buy a second hand pair for eighty quid. You want to be desperate to resort to such a thing. I pity them if that is what their life is reduced to.

Anyway....I found this on google:

Cheers for that Packie, that's what I was after! I sent off a message asking for prices on some of their Armour-Caps.

Oh okay, the Armour Caps can't be removed once applied and it's a minimum of 100 per order (at $3.25 each..!!!)

Any one else have any other ideas about how to stop this happening again?

This may be a really really really stupid idea, but you could round off the heads of the bolts and then use a stud extractor / drill them out afterwards. The new bolts should be pretty cheap, but it would be a lot of effort...

U-lock and a couple of specially made plates to cover the calipers and mounting bolts? Would be an awkward heap of metalwork to lug about though.
Otherwise, an alarm or lock-up garage/secure parking place?

I can't understand why they pinch your calipers its unreal, low life scum.

Change the bolts to alley key socket heads than fill the socket with tiger seal or stikoflex is what you need it dries hard but would allow you to get it out the socket in the event you need to.

Hopefully it was a random one and they've got what they needed and that'll be the end of it.
Situations like this are horrible, but unfortunately there are plenty of arseholes out there to spoil it for everyone else.
Not too sure about the rounding off bolts idea, that's just painful.
The only real solution is obviously garaging it, or at the very least putting it in a back garden, but that obviously depends on your circumstances.

Remove the battery, place a nice thick piece of rubber under the side stand. Then apply mains electricity to the frame :evil

I find a few scattered land mines on the approach to the bike can be just as effective, as long as you remember where they are!  :think

Seriously though, I have some concern for the OP here. If the thieving bastards make money, or buy their dope, or whatever, successfully this time around, they're likely to see his bike as easy income.

Can you a) get it somewhere they cant get at it? b) get it somewhere more obvious / more overlooked? c) get a security light on it?

Richfzs, I love your idea about the mains electricity! One time that I wouldn't mind being woken up by chavs shouting  :rollin

But yeah, it's underneath a lamp post chained in place underneath my bedroom window.. I can't believe I didn't hear the little shits. I'm leaving my blinds and windows open tonight and leaving my PC monitor on overnight so it looks like someone's awake in the room. Should be a deterrent I hope! My dad's looking into getting some TORX-esque things to fit on the calipers for me.

Failing that, Cable Tie's idea sounds pretty good!

Never gunna ride off without testing my brakes again =@
