Where to buy tyres?
#1
I've done my research and almost made a decision.  Hanging the balance are the PR3's or BT023's.  I can't quite make my mind up, and don't think I'll be disappointed with either.

I think the deciding factor will be the price, not specifically the cheapest option, but the best deal.  As such I'm looking for recommendations on the best places to buy.

Thanks for any input.

I just got a new rear from these, delivery was quick and I'd probably use them again if I couldn't find anywhere cheaper

Dunno really, I've got a 21 on the back and a 23 on the front for now

The 23 really feels good through the salt and ice at the moment.

As the 21 on the back has over 11000 (+) and it's getting near the wear bars, I'll probably go for the new and improved 23 (so say Bridgestone) pretty soon.

I have used these with good results....

The last set I ordered they actually sent me the wrong size rear tyre but I rang and they were most apologetic and the next morning a courier arrived with the correct replacement. Good prices, but more important, great after sales service!

In terms of the two tyres, night and day to me. I went into my local dealer (Watling Tyres) for a new front and back some months ago, with the intention of getting Pilot Road 3's. I'd run PR2's before and liked them, although at the time I was coming from power pure's (the weather was turning colder, and I wanted a wet and colder weather performer on). The nice man in the shop convinced me that I should be getting Bt23's (sell more of these that any other, used in Ron Haslam race school, customers swear by them etc), and if I really didn't like them, they'd swap them back off.

I'd barely had four miles on them when I went back the first time. I told them that the lazy profile felt like I was turning through jam. Whereas before, it was simply think and turn, always being where I wanted, the Bridgestones needed conscious effort to turn. Any tyre you swap to after your track oriented Power Pure's will feel heavy sir, he said, run them for a few days, and see what you think then. I ran then for about 4 days, 400 miles, and then went back again. I find their turning wooden and heavy. I couldn't
much comment on their wet\cold handling, as any manoeuvre was dominated by the heavy turn. When I got them back, the nice man put his hand on the very hot tyre (the weather was pretty cold) and said that they'd clearly been gripping well as I must have been wanging it to get them that hot, but even if that's the case, they didn't feel confident.

The PR3's were put on and off I went. Hardly got down the road... Bloody fantastic. Turn was bang on again, once run in, they grip like no other wet tyre I have ever had. They really are light years ahead. Warm up is extremely quick. Best tyres I've ever run.
I can put three hundred letters in here? Really?  I can dump this much crap at the bottom of each and every post and reply that I do, and there not a stinking thing  you can do about it.  I can also put in a picture you say?  My my, aren’t we generous with the space all of a sudden.  This won’t last

whatever you feel comfy with....I have praise for the 4 sets of 023s I have had on the fazer , and also really rate dunlop roadsmarts. They are my style of steering though. I actually hated PR2 s !!..found them to quickly go off to a wooden feel from the steering within a 1000 miles. The FZ-1 is also a very diffrent steering to a FZS, so maybe this accounts for it ??
when I put roadsmarts on my speed triple2 it really improved the handling , as IMO the front was vague on stock metzeler3s.It felt so much more stable and planted on the RS.

we is all diffrent. I also think go with the best deal you can find. I have been buying tyres on the net through reputable suppliers and getting a local shop to fit them...then they started being competitive on price so I bought from them...now they are getting very expensive again !...its  a constant battle to get value for money.

I bought a pair of Sport Smarts  online a few weeks ago (£230 delivered) through Oponeo (who? I hear you cry) one of europes largest tyre retailers.
I've bought loads of tyres from them, and they nearly always have the best prices.

Anyway, their online ordering isn't too clever, you have to order the items singularly, so two separate orders, with two separate email confimations.

Courier rolls up, with just the front, confirms he hasn't got the rear on his van, and it's to follow.
So I sign for the front, and make myself a cuppa.

Half an hour later, sitting down I read through the delivery doct, and it turns out Oponeo have lumped my two orders together....and it appears I've actually signed for two tyres...but I'm in receipt of only one!.....merde!

I ring Oponeo (they are in Poland, but it's an 0800 number..so no problem) expecting a shedload of grief and distress, only to find that the young lady on the other end (really sexy slavic accent  ) of the line is without doubt the most helpful person handling  complaints that I've spoken to for years.
She confirmed that I had actually signed for two, and technically of course, Oponeo were not legally obliged to do any more, but went on to say that she would replace the missing tyre of give a full refund.

Two days later, (today) true to their word, another rear tyre is delivered...job done.

In these days of shitty attitudes and service, I cannot recommend this company highly enough....if you are in the market for rubber....give them a shot...you won't be dissapointed.
