datatool alarm
#1
Just been on a 6 day jolly to france/italy & switzerland and had a weird thing happen to the alarm. just come out of one of the tolls in france & parked up to wait for the others turned the bike off & the alarm armed itself as normal when everyone arrived bloody thing would,nt disarm.

I tried my spare fob still no joy kept pressing the button on/off for ages suddenly it disarmed i was able to start the bike turned around to see one of the other lads having the same problem with his meta alarm finally his deactivated & we were able to get on our way looked and noticed just behind the trees where we were stopped there was  a small sub station.

the only thing i can think of is that the sub station was interferring with the remote signal has anybody else had this happen?? neither of us had any trouble before or since

Nearly all of the French Autoroute tolls booths have a radio transmitter mast next to them broadcasting the 107.7 Autoroute Info radio station amongst other things.  It's quite possible that there was transmission on a frequency close enough to the 433.9 frequency used by the keyfob to swamp the receiver.

Ahhh i did notice that mast & didnt know which one was the culprit mast or sub station in a way i was glad the other bike alarm f******d up and realised there was something amiss just before we were contemplating bypassing the alarm, lucky it disarmed when it did me thinks :b

Last ditch but easy way of getting round the problem is to put one of those metallised survival blankets over the bike and crawl under with it so the keyfob and receiver are shielded from the transmissions.  Fairly easy when it's a bike alarm being affected, not quite so simple when it's something like a Range Rover!

The one I had on my YZF-R125 did the same thing. The alarm gets itself into an inconsistent state sometimes. I normally fixed it by setting it off by turning the key with the alarm set, then repeatedly trying to plip it off.
