Acciden then engine knock
#1
I had a low speed accident today , my Fazer (600) ended up on its side. damaged generator cover and fairing
Worrying thing was, when I eventually started it (It had flooded) there was a loud big end bearing type knocking noise, could be something catching the damaged generator cover but the noise sounded deeper in the engine .
After a short ride home "no choice" the noise has gone and engine sounds sweet . worrying though!
The other thing is despite the other driver being at fault , i'm sure i can't prove it ! Despite the fact that I have protected no claims, i'm sure to have to pay big time next insurance renewal !
I was thinking to sort out my own damage thinking that the other driver (minimal damage on his vehicle) would not claim.
He says that he is putting in a claim. I suppose that the Fazer might be written of and I be offered it back
anybody been this way?

If it's his / her fault, you claim off their insurance - if they have it. Your ins still need to be aware of it though.

Is your gen cover cracked / holed, or just scraped?

small hole, Already told mine,  but as I'm sure it will be seen as a knock for knock situation not doing anything yet !

I had a little off on a mini roundabout where the car didn't stop and i locked up the front end and fell off an almost at standstill bike, the weight caught me off guard. Anyway it cracked my clutch cover. I was told i didn't have a chance of claiming without witnesses. Tough call but fixed it myself with help from Ebay.

I can recommend those crash bungs after a similar incident myself, bike went over, bungs stopped any damage except scratches to the wing mirror casing, which hit the ground 1st.

I have engine bars. I love them to bits.

These are the exact ones I bought.

They look ok , My 600 is to some extent my hack and don't want to put any more extras on it. " got matching air horns , heated grips, screens now and I was more concerned about the weird engine noise . i had a ride on the still damaged bike yesterday "as much as anything to get my confidence back" everything seems ok .so just need to repair the fairing and get a generator cover.

If your gen cover is holed, maybe you've got dirt ingress from the bike being on its side causing the noise? (Tricky to tell without seeing how badly damaged it is).

Only a small hole in the cover ," which was caused by a kerb" i don't think it was dirt ingress!  methinks,.2 possibilities either the bashed casing caught something inside ,or as the noise sounded more of a knock that a grind . possibly, as the engine was on its side, it ran for a few seconds and picked up some air rather than oil  . If it was my first sernario I should see something when I change the engine cover, the other i will never know and  as everything sounds ok I hope for the best, I'll wait to see what happens on the insurance front , then "as the bike is usable" repair the damage over the winter
